Getting back into it.. (was forum=82)Follow

#1 Jan 24 2008 at 10:43 PM Rating: Decent
Hello.

I started the game when it first came out, and finished end game DRK.
Getting back into it with plans on RDM/NIN. New account and all, lost info for the old one. I am nearly 2 years out of practice, but looking for a good LS.
If your LS could use a RDM/NIN in the next few months who is an old veteran needing just a bit of refreshing, let me know and maybe we can set up some kinda world pass for me? I used to reside in Gil. server. Let me know, and I will post what server I end up on in a few.. I am currently loading everything now, and will be ready in like 30 mins or so. Plans for my Character are to start as either MNK or THF, lvl to 15, then lvl WAR to Sub-job lvl, then lvl WAR/(THF or MNK) to 30 for NIN, then lvl NIN sub WAR to 37, then RDM/NIN to end game. Also, any opinions on Race? Will probly end up with Mithra, but never played RDM extensivly, and dunno what would be best?

Why is it that only new FFXI posters get lost in the Wikibase forum? Smiley: confused

Hey,

Want to join Midgardsormr via a Gold Worldpass, for the free trinkets? If so, let me know!

Red mage is such a flexible job that any race has something to offer for it.

Taru for highest INT&MP, and easy 1:1 convert ratios.
Mithra for pretty good MP and much better melee capability than Taru.
Hume for that all-around balance of physical and magical stats.
Elvaan for high physical stats when soloing, and high MND.
Galka for highest physical durability when soloing.

It sounds like you intend to do a fair bit of soloing -- none of the choices are bad, and Mithra would be just fine.

The plan is good up until the "RDM/NIN to endgame" part.

Ninja is a good sub for RDM, but it's really a solo kinda thing, for xp parties, you'll need WHM or BLM, preferably both. Then for endgame events, you'll want /DRK and probably a couple others as well, but /NIN's not really used for a lot outside of soloing and maybe a couple other things.

Also, you don't need a World Pass anymore, you can just pick the server you want. If you decide to land on Remora, I can help you out with a LS.

Yeah, since I was talking to Guppie... </sarcasm>

Why do you think I was referring to that? The OP said that he hasn't played in 2 years, and he asked for a world pass, he might not know that you no longer need them.

Try to understand things before you criticize them...

FTFY

As is noted above, RDM/NIN is good for soloing. This soloing refers to killing NMs and such that are very difficult or impossible for other jobs to solo. It should be noted while RDM/NIN can solo some very difficult mobs, it takes forever and a day to do so. A MNK/NIN can solo an Even Match mob in about 2 minutes(they will likely need to rest for a while afterwards). A RDM/NIN can solo an Even Match mob in about 15 minutes (They will usually have to rest less than the MNK though, if at all). If you plan on soloing all the way to 75, RDM is not the way to go.

If you plan to party to 75 then I suggest this as your fastest method of leveling. WHM to 18, get subjob, BLM/WHM to 37, WHM/BLM to 37, RDM/(WHM or BLM) to 75. At about lvl 60 you will need to start thinking about unlocking NIN and level WAR to 18, Level NIN to 37, DRK to 37, BLU to 37. /NIN, /BLM and /BLU will be your most common soloing subjobs you will want these abvailable when you start soloing. /DRK is for endgame events that benifit greatly from Chainspell + Stun.

I say level 60 since soloing prior to having access to some of the better gear (Scorpion Harness and AF especially) will mostly be done by the Sleep/Nuke method (this works best with a /BLM sub). And /NIN doesn't really shine until 74 anyway.

People like to hit up the /nin for shadows and /blm for sleep nuking. But really, when u finally get stoneskin and phalanx, sub blu for pure godly soloing. I'm only 67 but even at this lvl I can hit up 490 def pre food with cocoon. When you can take down t-vt mobs with almost no downtime, after refresh n' convert, the idea of wasting more time resting through sleep nuking gets annoying.

Although, rdm/nin is one of the best nm hunters in the game post 74.

I was not aware you no longer needed a worldpass. But what does the Gold Worldpass give you? Anything that would help much?

Some nice little trinkets for Moghouse Decor, as well as a set of caps to let your high level friend cap himself down to your level so you can play together. My favorite is the mantle clock, the tune it plays every Vana-hour adds some nice flavor to the old mog house.

Also one more thing, I chose RDM/NIN for PVP at end game lvl's. As I remember it being one of the best. As I know most of the information I can remember is most likely outdated, is this still true, and has anything changed with PVP, still just balista?
