Low level parties (up to level 40) can be a *****. And there are several reasons for it.
First off people in low level parties usually are playing new jobs (unless they are severely synced down), which does take getting used to. While you can expect a player to at least understand the main principles of his/her job at level 40+ (like not meleeing as a WHM
![Smiley: smile](//zam.zamimg.com/i/smilies/smile.gif)
), you can't expect them to already know all the fine details.
Secondly, a low level party might have a mixture of newbee and veteran players (who probably have one or several other jobs at 75 already). While you can expect those veterans to understand the basic mechanics of a party, it is not really fair to expect the same from a newbee. Some veterans are real @ssholes at this and instead of trying to teach the newbees how to play (or at least give them some advice), just start yelling and swearing and end up kicking new players from their party. Just avoid these pricks in the future, they are not worth your time. Blacklist is a great tool for that.
Last of all there are the EXP *****. These are usually veteran players (although I have seen this behavior with players bringing their first job to 75 too), who's only goal seems to be to get the highest EXP/Hr rating possible. God forbid if you make a mistake leading to the death of a party member (and thus a loss of time and EXP), try to make a joke in party chat, ask for advice, ask for a short MP break, ask for the puller to not consistantly bring in IT++++ mobs, etc... You will get yelled at and possibly kicked from the party. Treat these players the same as the second class... blacklist and ignore.
The best way I have found to escape from the annoyances of 'prick' players and to enjoy job leveling in FFXI is to engage in linkshell EXP statics. Since you are playing with friends or at least people you know, there is less chance of being yelled at if you make a mistake. Because in general, linkshell members tend to help each other out, at least by giving good and sound advice, your chances of learning to properly do the job increase tremendously. On top of that, you might have the incredible luck to find a group of LS friends to static with that are not afraid to experiment and allow strange job/subjob combos or party setups (I still laugh whenever I see a party leader shouting "We need a tank, we can't party without a tank"
![Smiley: laugh](//zam.zamimg.com/i/smilies/laugh.gif)
). The latter also allows you to easily find a party if you took interest in one of the 'lesser wanted' jobs. Finally you can level your job of choice from low level all the way up to 75 with the same bunch of people, tremendously increasing your kill efficiency as a party and reducing the time lost lfg.
If you are so lucky as to find a LS static (as I did years ago), there is nothing that stands in your way to learn to play your job right, and still enjoy it all the way.
Off course, this does not mean you don't have to do a lot of research on your job. Especially when starting a new job, you should read the guides (either on Allakhazam, Wikipedia or other FFXI related forums) and understand the basics. Not meleeing as a WHM is something you could have picked up easily by skimming the stickies (keep that for skill up parties at later levels).
Good luck with your WHM career (it is a great job if you like helping others).
