I'm not saying it would or wouldn't work. I was just giving a way they wouldn't "have to" eliminate parties completely. FFXI catered to (mostly) hardcore gamers and was at it's peak in 2006. When, well, grouping up was a thing
Causation vs correlation.

Partying wasn't the issue, it was the type of parties and the jobs that were required and excluded. SE attempted to fix that with Abyssea but missed the mark in my opinion. You could argue that Abyssea simplified the game beyond the game's intent, but to argue that the old days was ideal is misleading. It was broken from the start and SE fixes just never really solved the problems.

Even when this was more "the thing" with XI, you'd still hear tales of the DRG LFG for 10+ hours without an invite or groups never getting off the ground because a RDM/BRD/whatever never popped.
Meanwhile, WHMs had to /anon to keep from getting invites. No I don't want to stand around for 3 hours doing nothing but healing your asses, it's boring.

Making the limit breaks easier serve as another example of this, since most common people didn't really have a reason to farm the Papyrus dropping mobs.
I've been leveling an alt lately, and thanks to Trusts, a WHM can now solo all three of those drops. I think I was level 46-48 and my club skill was even blue. The lich was the hardest because of blood aggro.

That was before they were replaced by a RDM and a BRD. Parties are fun, but not when you're waiting for specific jobs for a specific camp and all of the other max/min requirements.

I think you missed my point about NOT having the party flag up and having to /anon to avoid getting unwanted invites. What's the point of the party flag if people ignore it not being on?

I didn't miss the point, I was just adding to it. I wasn't trying to contradict your claim. It started off with WHMs having to hide their identity from getting so many requests to begging any party to get an invite. I was merely pointing out how the times have changed and I ended my comments by looping back to the topic that parties aren't bad.
