I found a few of these in a recent excursion to Darkness Falls and I was wondering if they have any purpose or value other than something to sell to a vendor.

Correction, DF armor became less effective with the Shrouded Isles expanion and the introduction of spell crafting, not to mention unique item drops. Quality means a lot, and store bought armor never has a very high quality.

DF seals are also great for making money, if you have spent time raising a craft like fletching, armorcrafting and weaponcrafting. At high levels, people farm the diamond and sapphire seals and use them to buy breastplates or longswords, salvage them into their base metal bars, turn those bars into hinges, and sell those hinges back for a greater profit. Or, if they're metalworking isn't high enough to hinge those bars, simply find someone who is and sell your seals to them. I know my server's rate of exchange for seals is 11g (diamond)/5g (sapph)/ 1g (emmy).
