Hello all you DAoC players. First off I've put 32 days worth of time into FFXI. And there's alot of things I like and dislike about this game. More so disliking than liking unfortunatly...
Anyways, I'll tell you what I like, and dislike about FFXI. And I'm hoping you all could tell me if DAoC is the right game for me and I should switch, or that DAoC and FFXI aren't much different, and I should just stay with FFXI, considering the time i've put into it. And thanks.
Things I like about FFXI:
*I really really like the graphics and visual effects in FFXI. I heard DAoC has very good graphics also.. but FFXI's aren't bad at all.
*I really like the auction house feature in FFXI. This allows players to just put up items for sale at a building, which anybody can buy from that is in the country that the item was put up for sale in. This is just cool, because you don't just have to sit in town shouting until somebody will buy what your selling.
*I like the Linkshell feature in FFXI. This is a sort of clan, that has 3 different ranks. Leader : Can let people into the LS, appoint a pearlsack, and kick people. Pearlsack: Can let people into the LS, and kick everyone except for the leader. And then just pearls, which are just there to chat.
* That's the three magor things I like about the game, there's alot of other little things, like different geographical regions.. multiple different dungeons.. and weather effects and little things like that. but i'm already taking up alot of space, so i'll move on.
Things i don't like about FFXI:
*I ABSOLUTLY 100% HATE how long it takes to level up in FFXI. *besides level 1-10.*FFXI is DESIGNED to make you waste your life on the game, if you want to get absolutly anywhere. All the game is, is level grinding, and making gil to afford armor and/or spells for the next level. There's no mini games, or "fun" things that come along later on in the game or anything. ALL it is, leveling up, fighting mobs, leveling up, buying new armor, and fighting the exact same mob, that's stronger, in a different zone, with a different name. Maybe a different color if your lucky.So i'm rolling in, all this game being about is level grinding, you need gil to progress anywhere in the game, and there being no little fun thigns to do when ur bored in the game, all into this one paragraph.
*I also dislike the amount of varaition in this game. You can get in parties with people who look identical to you... That kinda makes me mad. Also the same types of armor designed are used over and over. And monster apperances are used over and over like stated above. It just be nice to think that people went out of their way to make their game nice, and fun, and exciting, wrather than jammed pack with useless crap.
*I also dislike, how you can't get good experiance points in a party, unless your within like 2 levels of the people your partying with. So if you level faster, or slower than your friends, one of you has to wait so the other can catch up, so you can play with each other again. And if you log on, and your not fighting, your basically sitting... Unless ur fishing or farming to make gil...
Ok... well that's it.. There's a bit more i could have put up, but i'l save that for any responses. Thanks alot for all your peoples time, i really appreciate it, and i'll be looking forward to you future responses.

I played FFXI for about 2 months when it first released for PC in the USA.
I don't like being forced to sit around for hours trying to get a group, because they've designed the game to be unplayable unless you have a perfect, or near perfect, group.
As a "casual" gamer, who only plays a couple hours a day during the work week, this meant my time on the game was mostly spent waiting around until the weekend when I could be on for hours, stupidly sitting and looking for a group.
Also, at that time, I found the language/communication issues difficult and often there was down-right hostility based on country of origin. Who needs that on a form of entertainment??
I say, dump FFXI. Sure, it's pretty to look at, I agree. The mail system and market system are NICE... but for overall enjoyment, that doesn't cut it.
To me, eye candy isn't everything... I'm hoping that DAoC will improve the market and communication in-game. I think, with the catacombs expansion improvements in graphics, those 2 things are really the big things to be addressed to make them competitive with new games coming out and games like FFXI.

I currently dumped ffxi after 7 mo of play. My big reason. time spent to get into a pt. and you have to actually have to lv all the times in a pt, and it has to be a good one and you can only face one stupid enemy at a time.
I tried the trail version of daoc,now it doesnt have the visual overhauls from the 2 expension packs shrouded isle and trails of atlantis, (these come in the daoc plat vesion for 30 and a free mo) it does look quite good (check the website to see how it looks with all the expantion packs)
Now it does not have the aution house (cry) but that does not mean your gonna have a hard time getting items. you can craft like in ffxi except you can make better items.
as for enemies, there are plenty of different enemies, there are some that look alike but have different weapons (which is cool) enemies are extremely abundant and some will come in diff colors, plus you can notice a wolf pup from a red wolf (damn reds are big and look better)
As for Parties, your quite not obligated to battle in parties, you can actually play solo with most of the classes (good for me cuz im a casual gamer) how different it is from ffxi. well you can actually kill enemies 1 to 3 lvs higher than you depending the class you chosen. (they are rated by name color and + next. yellows are the same lv as you, orange are 1 lv more, red 2. blue means 1 lv less and green 2 lvs less. purple means they are 3 or higher and white mean you just have to stare at em and they die.
When you party you can actually party with 8 people and fight multiple targets at the same time, this makes it exciting than killing just 1 stupid mob at a time with a 6 player pt and barely win.
Another element that makes this game super fun is rvr (realm vs realm) you can actually participate in a huge group of people, invade another realm and take over some fortresses, there will be pvp involed like this the more your realm conquers the more benifits you can get and aslo you get to unlock special teqs for your char using realm points) FFxi has the conquest system which is quite dumb compared to this.
also if you meet someone your lv and want to challange him you can challange him into a duel this eliminates noob bashing and makes the game interesting (its funny t watch 2 druids duel and sit down and watch their wolves duke it out)
Moneys quite abundant and easy to get. enemies drop lots of loot and some magical items plus you can craft (mentioned above)
Another nice thing is that your character will NEVER be the same as another persons char. you can paint your armor witrh dyes, plus you can get emblems for your capes. you can add a last name at lv 10 to your name, even if you choose the same class as someone else you can build it differently (ex as a druid you can either max your skills at healing or buffing and be a healer or you can max your skills on nature and buffing and be a dmg dealer or just raise em up equally and do both but you wont shine one any speific skill) Theres tons of customazation. (not know bone,beetle look alike armor)
the cons:
well towns are small very small (some consist of 2 to 5 houses) and the capitals are quite big but sometimes can be a pain to navigate. there is no map but there are roads that connect to the towns.
The battle music can get boring fast (but thank god you can togle it off the ambient music and the ambient sounds are awsome. you just gotta hear a thunder storm)
some enemies sounds can get a little annoying ( but so they do in ffxi)
I havent found anything else to complain about but if i do ill post it.
ITs defentenly worth it for the casual gamer. I advise you get the 7 day trail and get into a big server. remember the grafic overhaul and music is not in the trail version. if you like the game play go get the plat versiion and have fun,

I aggre with all of this, but I did want to add, that while there is not auction style selling of equipment, there is a player market were your items can be listed and potential buyers can use a search engine style to find what they are looking for.

I can only relate what a RL friend said soon after switching to DAoC: "I quit playing FFXI because of the endless time sinks."
