Curious about the RangerFollow

[Green] Well I am just curious about the weapon choices of a ranger. Although I was under the assumption tha CD was the way to go for a ranger I have seen some people that have had success with a sword and shield ranger. Does this hold true for any other rangers out there that are in higher levels? Or should I not hold my breath to be an individual and lean more toward being Legolas of Mirkwood, wielding two daggers....hmm that also sprouts another question. If I do decide to dual wield should I go pierce or slash?

Using a shield can be helpful at low levels. But when you get into higher levels CD is the way to go. No reason for you not to train a little into CD to help your offhand damage.

Going Pierce or Blades depends on a few things. Your stats and your preferences.

Two weapons would fit the ideal of the archetypal ranger better than just standing there with a shield. Plus, when you get to higher levels CD is really nice with the range of positionals that it offers.

If you really fancy going for a shield ranger though, its your choice.

As for the pierce/slash debate - remember that pierce is more dex based and slash more str based (as a generic rule). Match your playing style/race to those to make sure you get the best possible combination.

Generally, people who want the best performance seem to go with pierce, because they already have dex raised for their bow usage.
On the other hand, the classic D&D ranger used swords, so blades is an attractive option.

Personally, I use rapiers, which are swords but count as pierce :) I just like the idea of sticking the baddies repeatedly.

Also, when you train in Pierce at level 25 you get Diamondback, a 5 second stun off evade.
