I just order DAoC and was wondering if it's better then FFXI Online? I've been playing that game for awhile now and I got tired because of the constent changes and the fact that everything you do is depended on other people too.. What you think.. will i like DAoC better?

Hmmm, it's hard to say because I only played FFXI for a very short time and didn't like the PC interface and graphics at all.

DAoC has earned the reputation in the past of being really tough to get into for a new player. My limited experience with the Catacombs expansion seems to suggest it's addressed some difficulties that casual gamers and solo players have had in the past (Catacombs allows quests called mini quests for casual gamers and dungeon tasks geared toward solo players.)

I've been on and off DAoC for about a year, and recently came back with Catacombs. I'd suggest running Catacombs for the updated graphics and the new content for casual and solo players.

Hope that helped.

I just got it last night myself. I bought the platinum edition. Let's put it this way, I installed it, updated it, and played for over 4 hours. I think I may have a winner here.

I tried FFXI also but quit at the end of my free period. I didn't like the interface either...among many other things.

Oh, I forgot to add.... there are very nice help tips and guides to help you get started in the game. Nice little quests to help you start off with better equipment and such. I am not sure which version you ordered but the platinum pack will catch you up to all but Catacombs. I am going to pick that piece up today.

I'll put it this way, you've only played for 4 hours, you're still in your honeymoon period as a new player. When you get on in levels and realize that groups are few and far between, you'll get the depression of it. Thankfully, they addressed that.

One of the major reasons I quit, I was a casual gamer, and didn't have much time to dedicate to group exp grindages. Although my Catacombs is a bit screwy (Won't let me into the Burial Grounds, every other Catacombs area works just fine), they are a God-send for the lower leveled chars like myself (highest I have is a 41 mercenary and 36 warrior). The new tasks and quests in the newbie areas (very new character friendly actually, few aggressives if any, and just some courrier quests).

As far as "what game is better" it depends on who you ask, I'm sure some hardcore FFXI fans will promote it to no end, same with DAoC fans promoting DAoC. I asked a friend of mine who's played all three games, in order of what held him the longes, EQ/DAoC/FFXI. EQ held him for about 2-3 years, DAoC about a year and a half, and FFXI about 2 months I believe. Since then he's quit MMORPGs but that's the concensus on someone who really liked the genre. I'm reccommending DAoC cause they finally got their act together and became more friendly to the limited time players.

I noticed there were not a lot of people on the server I was on and not a heck of a lot to begin with. I have restarted a character on a normal server and am just about ready to choose my class (I am just shy of level 5).

Funny how you mentioned the groups. I started a new character on Friday night and no sooner did I spawn in the world that someone asked me to group with them. Then the sent the message they wanted to duel. I told them I was just a brand new character and they still wanted to duel. Whatever.... just struck me as funny.

The beginning quests are good and help get used to the game quite a bit. I do like the taskmaster quests and those you get from the named guards. Keeps me busy. I like the enhancements to the graphics with Catacombs too. Very nice.

I too am a more casual gamer and I liked what I read about Catacombs. I am still growing in the world and I know I will make some bad choices with my skill choices so I am reading these forums to help that whole bit out. Still having fun with the game though....

I am on the Morgan Le Fay server right now. I am currently playing a Viking (I am at work right now, and for the life of me, ashamed to say, I cannot remember his name--I used the random name function) and am in Haggerfell on a quest hunting down an egg stolen by Askefruer. This may push me to my fifth season and off to seek further training. I have saved all my skill points (I saw that recommendation in other posts) for my visit with the new trainer.

My vision for this character is pure tank. I've been saving cash for some armor down the line also.

On the quest before I visited the front lines to deliver an item. I can hardly wait to join the fight. :)

I'm on Hib Percival alot lately as Derbega a 15 ranger, fun class, I've got plenty of cash on Hib/Guin, I gotta see about shifting stuff around again. If you wanna play a Hibernian I can really help ya out with Percival. My favorite albs are on Nimue, although my highest character is a 41 merc on Bedevere.

But yeah, as offered above, anyone wanting to try a Hibernian can feel free to contact Derbega on Percival. I'm shying away from all other characters because I really wanna make Hibernia a main stay, high population server, great fun. That and for some reason I can't get into the Burial Grounds in Midgard, but every other Catacomb area is just fine.
