I'm a newbie first of all which i didn't have to tell if you read along.
Well here it is: I was trying to enter gate at Druim Ligen and I couldn't open it. Now I think I know why. Must have dropped the medallion which opens these gates, correct?
Now can I buy/get back and of course how?

There is a switch to the left of the gates. When you click on it, the switch changes positions and the gates open.
No medallion needed for that. The medallion needs to be worn for transport purposes - either to a battleground or somewhere within the realm (housing, bind point, TnN, Domnann, Atlantis, etc.) You can buy the medallions from Araisa for various prices.
