Patches on My Prime Playing TimeFollow

#1 Dec 15 2005 at 8:44 AM Rating: Decent
I pay for this game.
I pay for internet,
then JUST when i go through 10 mins. to get INTO the game......
we are shutting down for 5 hours to bring you a patch
so i cant play, for 5 hours while servers are down.....
THEN since i have dial up,
how many hours will it take to get the update installed?
probably 3-4
and after 2 hours, i am auto disconnected,
sooooooo, then i will start over, and over, and spend my entire day trying to get into a game that i payed to play,
and COULDNT<
now, why couldnt mythic put this up at 3 am EST?
at least EVERY other Patch it could be switched to the next time zone.....
that would be fair.
it seems us East Coast People,
who pay just as much as the West Coast People,
get screwed,
when my friend wakes up in 3 hours.....he only has to wait 2 hours? for the same amount of money,
and my friend in Hawaii, gets up and simply patches,
cuz its DONE already there!
this is bogus,
i have called Mytic,(long distance)
and complained,
and sent many, many feedback forms.......
NO RESULT!

I am ready to leave this game,
stop feeding their fat little coffers
$180 a year to NOT play???
BOGUS

I'm not going to waste a lot of time with your complaint....

But part of the reason you pay is for the updates.... if you want to get them faster get high speed... if you are not satisfied then stop playing... it's pretty much that simple... One less person complaining....

i just decied to give this game another try as i got bord with eq again and all the other this year, i played daoc a yr ago for 2 weeks hated it rathered eq, liked the idea but was more compliacted then eq.

but now i want to give it another chance i calncled all other mmorpgs i play a month ago and just reactiveated daoc today 3 hrs ago and did the paybycash to get the expansions which i hope get activated soon for me.

i log in make a character just finnish the tutorial, and a message server coming down.

no big deal gives me time to read up on the net on this game to see what to do.
after reading for 2 hrs i go to check to log in and play. but can't then find out 5 hour down time

again no biggy hoping this is a once a week thing only for getting ready for weekends, i then notice this seems to be an issue a lot i see in formus and news pages on daoc.

why don't they do these big patches last night?
why not just 6 servers at a time?
or at least let the test server be available. and if it is plaese post how to get in, so we could test out new classes etc.

just spending $45.00 on upgrading this game and monthly fee, to findout theres still issues with updating downtime as over a yr ago, not happy i hope this is just an short issue this month

now again today, from 11 am to 5pm!
that is ANOTHER 6 hours!
and there for the "just get high speed" tarter....
my cable pig, decided to mess up on my bill,
even tho i was paying(while my bill read zero) the amount i
SUPPOSEDLY was paying a month, during that time,
all of a sudden they decided i needed to fork over $750 to catch up to THEIR mistake!
Well I paid an additional $350, and i dont HAVE another $400
so i am on dial up
When i signed up to get the roadrunner,
i had a package, which was supposed to be $152.79 per month,
then they decided that wasnt enough to charge me, and suddenly demanded that i owed $225 per month, leaveing me owing and extra $100 a month! payable NOW, cuz we decided to make you pay up or no more cable!

so i got rabbit ears, one set was plain $10 they work great on the one tv, needed an amplified set for the other tv, was $30

thats ONE TIME!
then i signedup for phone, $65 to install, then $24.95 per month,
add ISP $5.95 per month first 3 months, then $10.95 after that, if i decide to stay with it!
and then a friend vcr's a program i would have paid all that money for!

and when i get disconned every few hours of continuous use, the ONLY complaint i have is that it gives no warning...so what do i do? before i start something important in game, i dis, then recon. that way im safe for a few hours......
well worth the $6 a month

so, lets see, so far THIS week, i didnt get 12 hours of play.....
theres no reason to patch ALL servers at the same time!
or the same time zone, gets punished each time

and there are plenty of ways to be able to patch games without taking them down for hours on end

and hi speed would p m off more, cuz i still couldnt play while MYTHIC has the servers down,,,,,my patchin speed AFTER is MY problem.....but......why do i have to wait 5 -6 hours for them to install an update.....they could have had it ready at 8am my time!
then i would wait while it patched and play.......

and if you dont want to read my tarting? just dont read it!
this is another site I PAY to use!

everquest 2 has the update issue pretty good 8 am every day for 1 hr mountain time, and weekdays only. 1 hr downtime never that bad, i hope daoc doesn't also have daily downtime on top of these 5-6 hr patches.

I understand the frustration, especially if your using dial-up. I think the price you pay for the patches and CSR's is well worth it. I think that maybe Mythic could possibly rotate how they patch but the problem is that they are on the East coast and the work day starts for them at 8 or 9 in the morning. You might also think about problems with patching such a large game. It takes a lot of coordination to make everything work out just right. If the patch has problems, and there always are unforseen events, they will most likely be staying late to try and fix it. Try running the patch when your not ready to play like when your at work or sleeping. I sometimes work my shedule so I can be home in the early evening to run the patch, just click and leave. I would check your ISP to see if they could allow you more download time before they bump you. Also, I would suggest you look into a faster internet conection. In case your wondering I live in South Carolina, I too have to deal with the same problem. Good luck and I hope this doesn't make you leave the game. I think you'd find the same problems on any other game. The big patches are a rare event in my opinion, the daily patches are no big deal. If you think the patches are not worth the money then I suggest you get Gameboys and link-up!

It's funny when people complain about a company that updates their product, but because they gotta rely on a 3rd party to get the updates, ie their ISP, they still blame the company giving them the update.

Vast majority of people have high speed, and in the business world, you cater to the majority, and do your best to accomodate the minority. Hence, big patches mean virtually nothing to most as they have some form of high speed internet, wether they sit on a fat OC pipe, a T-3, Cable, DSL, ISDN, or what not, most people have some form of high speed, and we want all up the patch at once to get it done and over with.

As far as the timing goes. Mythic is located on the east coast, so it's most logical for them to update when they get to work, and then have time to make sure things are going correctly. Also, most people located in the United States at the time are also at work or heading to work while they patch the game. So again, they are accomadating the majority by taking the game down when most people are least likely to be on.
