Yeah i was curious is this game still worth playing? it's pretty old are the graphics still good for our time? How is the game play? How is the pvp? Do many people still play this game? I'm coming from a lvl 70 red mage in FFXI and a lvl 40 warlock and 60 rogue in WoW and im looking for a fun pvp based game and this game caught my eye but i'd like some of those questions answered, my friend said that DAOC was like Runescape which i hate and i was really hoping you guys could help me out here.

This game is still worth playing if you really want PVP. Alot of other MMOs dont stress PVP like this game does, and it does it very well. leveling has also become much easier with catacombs and instances. The people in the game will also treat you well and welcome you if you are new. Ive played the same games as you have, with nearly the same level spread, and i still think that DAOC has the greatest diversity in terms of characters, classes, and weapons/content. Gear and race dont matter as much as experience in battles with PVP, and this game puts you in the experience right away, with Lands to fight in every 5 levels. I say that if you are looking for a great PVP experience as well as gaming experience, then this game is for you.

Alright thanks, that sounds great. I think i'll pick up the game sometime this week and try it out, it really does look good. As for race/realm i was thinking of being a Dwarf of Midgard, are there any classes dwarfs can be that are strong in pvp and strong/decent in pve? Thanks again.

Another question what are thee PVP servers like in DAOC? are there like friendly zones where you can't attack anyone? Are there contested zones or neutral where you can only attack people from other realms? Or can you just freely run around in any zone killing literally any PC you see? And is there RvR on the PvP servers? And does this mean as soon as i enter the game a lvl 50 can come kill me as a lvl 1? Since i come from wow there friendly zones which the oposite faction couldnt attack me unless i attacked them, and there were contested zones where i couldn't kill my own faction members but i could kill the other faction members,is DAOC similair to this? Please explain.

There is one special server that is a free-for-all server. You can kill anyone there at any level (except certain "safe zones").

The is one special server that is a joint realm Co-op server. On this server, all three realms work together.

These are alternate rule set servers, and most people don't play them, although many of the people that do love them. The majority are set up as Realm vs. Realm servers. Now there is the classic world which is YOUR REALM ONLY. Most of leveling up will be done here and in instanced zones, and you will never be ganked by anyone except mobs. The end game of DAoC is the player vs. player area called New Frontiers, which is a completely different area that does not connect with your homeworld area in any way. Here, you will encounter people from the other two realms. There are also battlegrounds for people leveling up to practice their RvR skills in. The bg's start at level 1, but the popular ones are 20-24 (very, very popular), 35-39 (Molvik) and 40-44 (Leirvik, least popular of the three, but sometimes okay) There is also a new bg for 45-49 people that will be starting very soon. You can gain realm ranks in these bg's, which allow you to gain added abilities or stats.

I see, so would it be wise to just pick a normal server with high pop and do BGs and RvR and frontiers when im at that lvl? But really what i would like to do is me and my friend are both going to get this game and on wow we always lvled together and killed the other faction as we lvled up, can you do this in a pvp server or is it just lvl 50s ganking lowbies everywhere you go? Sorry for so many question and thanks all for answearing.

I recommend you try it and see, and start with a "normal" server, perhaps Ector/Lamorak/Gareth because those three servers are the newest and don't have all the elite gear in them. They also are easier I find to get groups for new people as the older servers are more established and Power levels are the norm in those.

As someone completely new to the game, you will be at a disadvantage, but you can overcome that eventually.

Almost anyone can enjoy the Thidranki bg. In some ways, it is much better then the New Frontiers fights b/c they last longer b/c people are not super-equipped.

This game still has some of the best elements of all MMO's out there. It has its flaws, but leveling is fairly easy now so in maybe three weeks of semi-serious playing, you can have a toon at or near 50. you can slow it up some and enjoy the battlegrounds on your way and learn PvP, but they offer 14-day free trials to anyone, so if interested, what do you have to lose? Getting to 20 should take a few days and then try out the battlegrounds.

I have been playing since this game came out and dont always have a lot of time to play anymore and I am in one of the biggest guilds who is also leader of the alliance.

For me...I like the PVE aspect...the whole fantasy thing which is why I started it to begin and frankly I dont like RVR...just not my thing and unfortunately now at level 50 for some time and the master levels complete thats all there really is to do these days for me.

I have started new characters but its not like it used to be with lots of available groups of level 20's, 30's etc all leveling together like it used to be.

The majority are higher level players and RVR is the "en vogue" thing to do I guess.

Not complaining at all...just my observations.

My other little gripe is...there used to be good boards that showed schedules of raids and what nots...and I find myself signing on sometimes and just sitting around because everyone is already grouped and involved in something already.
