Tanking classes?Follow

Well, I am coming from WoW, and before that I played a little DAoC. I now have a better understanding of MMO's in general, with group play, PvP, and the like.

However, in WoW, classes all had set roles in parties and such. If you were a Warrior, you tanked, if you were a Priest, you healed, and so forth.

In DAoC, I had a Champion, but I never got a character to 50 (total altaholic) and didn't level him very high.

Now on to my question, is there any set class that MUST tank when they are put into a group situation? I have been contemplating on whether I want to make a HO armsmen when I play, or a mercenary. I don't want to be stuck tanking, I am really set on doing high amounts of damage.

If I take the route of the armsmen, will I be tanking most of my career, much like the Warrior of WoW?

You will do lots of damage with those two classes.....but yes....you will be tanking.

Consider perhaps the path of a Paladin or even a Minstrel...and also give some thought to an Infiltrator.

All three can multi-task if you will....with some tanking....but with other abilities.

You might look into a Reaver or better yet my all time favorite the Heretic. The Heretic is a combination class. Its a wizard, a cleric and a reaver all rolled into one. You can cast on mobs if you want or you can tank them. You can be the support healer or the support tank. You can also be the main tank and you'd solo very nicely. Great self buffs but only base group buffs.

A mercenary will do the most damage. If you played WoW for a while, consider them a rogue in chain armor. If you are grouped with a paladin, armsman or reaver, they will be the tank. Not you. They are considered a tank only because of heavy armor. In reality, they are the primary melee DPS class in Albion. You can tank if need be, but you do better to the side or behind a target. Hope this helps.

***BONUS ADVICE*** Duo with a paladin and you will level like a mad man.

A mercenary is the real RvR tank for Albion. Armsmen are good solid performers in PvE, but are someaht lacking in RvR (Polearm is incredibly slow and less effective because of it) If you want a good tank, champs are good, Warriors are also good, reavers are trickier to play, but Mercs are a ***** to level. But worth it in the end...
