Despite earlier denials by Mark Jacobs, EA is indeed buying Mythic. Yes, EA is really buying Mythic.

So, I expect DAoC to be shutdown within the next 3 months, and Warhammer Online to get cancelled within 6 months.

EA has no F'ing business having anything to do with MMORPG's. Period.

[Update]
Mark Jacobs has a couple of interesting things to say:

I'll leave you will one final bit, we didn't need to do this deal, we chose to do this deal because of what it meant to Mythic today and to our company going forward.

GW has fully blessed this agreement. They are excited about the possibilities for Warhammer going forward.

Maybe because GW has no knowledge of EA's prior track record with MMO's?

Sanya adds some thoughts:

I don't blame MMO players for being nervous, but think about it - we KNOW the history of all previous deals. Only a complete monkey wouldn't have taken that history into account while the contracts were being written.

Think we all know that once WoW came out, DAOC got stamped with an expiration date. There's no way to compete. All the new MMO players are going with WoW. DAoC is not growing anymore. Once it stops growing, it gets shut down. It's buisness.

I'm going to hold judgement just yet. They'd be fools to cancel WarHammer. At E3 it was voted best game, right?

why would they buy Mythic to shut down Warhammer?

That is the moneymaker they see. The question is how do they market Warhammer. I heard Mark Jacobs talking about having a gaming console version of Warhammer playing with PC users. Mythic is very aware of the mistakes and history of UO/EA. They said they are "confident" they will be making the content decisions to Warhammer (and to DAoc). EA will obviously have a very big say in how it gets marketed, but this game will be big.

DAoC, well sad to say, I doubt they will tolerate a game for long once the numbers go below a certain point...what that point is, hard to say, but resources will not very likely be diverted to a 5 year old game.

Not to be outdone, EA, are a shrewd company to deal with. Sure they may have messed up in the past, and, like the saying goes, "if you cant learn by your mistakes then your bound to fail".
Like all business, there came a time when their head was in the sand and now, what I can see, and I'm probaly wrong, using warhammer and daoc together. That is, by adding a fourth team to play against...................Now then, wouldn't that be something to play with:)

Im usually wrong, but, say la vie..........
