Hello everyone, I am a brand new player to daoc. I was wondering what Is a good server for noobie like me? And I was also wondering on tuesdays is there downtime like WoW?

I will be getting the epic edittion soon this week, any advice on servers or even any advice on what to do at lower levels would be great.

downtime in DAoC is not usual.

This was a correction patch. About every two months, there is a big patch (which the servers are down). That is supposed to be all the downtime there is, but they usually take them down once or twice more to correct some of the inevitable errors that occur in the game when they make changes.

The big patch was last week, but apparently, there was some more stuff that needed tweaked. It should be good for a while now.

As for server, the most newb-friendly servers are the classic servers (Ector/Lamorak/Gareth). Those servers are about a year old, so they don't have an old player base. But on any server of any realm, you will find some guild to take you in. Ector/Lamorak in particular has less of the hard core players and uber gank guilds running around in it, and is a good place for a casual/new player to begin.

Do you know any players from another game that play here? it is always nice to know at least one or two people that play the game to help answer some questions you will undoubtedly have and perhaps help you out a bit with some startup gear.

Perhaps, but they lose the chance to experience the Atlantis content by starting on those servers...

Personally, I like having just started as a Midgard player on the RP servers. :p

yes, I have said that in other posts...you will lose the experience of the total game, but as long as others are on equal footing as you, you will not miss that much.

Being new to this game can be tough. Some of the items in ToA are incredibly powerful, and they shorten fights. They do create a gap between the haves and have-nots and the gankers and the casual player.

If you want to put the time in, you can catch up, but the thing is you have to do this for every toonn you create. You can play in NF on a regular server without ToA items in your template, but you will be a subpar toon. Truth is, without a buff-bot, you will be much worse than you would be without ToA items. Buffs are the single most important thing in the game. i would then rate group coordination as second (using ventrillo, having a main assist, each person knowing their role), artifact/RA/ML dumping as third, and skill as fourth. Classics help by eliminating two of these issues, but each person should make up their own mind.

I just try to give the pros and cons, and for a new person entering the game at such a late date, I think the pros of the classic are more than the cons.

First of all downtime is not that common, yes they have patches but they try real hard to do them in non peak hours. A good server is Gwaine and I personnaly recommend that you join the Hibiernia faction. When you do get on find a guild that will help you and don't mind answering questions(I belong to the Hibernia Black Guard and think they are great). And by all means get the Epic edition.
