Lots of Questions!!!!Follow

Okay, WoW player here looking for a change. Been playing WoW for over a year now and i'm growing quite bored with it. Tried several other MMO's as a possible replacement...here's the list of them: Guild Wars, Everquest 2, EVE, Star Wars Galaxies, Anarcy Online, Dungeons and Dragons Online. Needless to say, none of them have caused me to cancel my WoW account. I did cancel for a bit for EQ2, but came back after about 2 months.

Was checking out mmorpg.com, when I saw an add for a 14 day free trial for DAoC. I downloaded and tried it, and it seemed okay. I hear the PvP on it is awesome. However, I do have to say that the graphics on it are quite outdated. Which complaint was quickly dismissed as I read that there is an expansion that updates the graphics on it. So basically, I am left undecided on what to do. I have several questions that I would to ask all you veterans, to hopefully sway me to one game or the other.

1: Graphics. How does the new graphics engine compare to WoW's? I do like WoW's graphics alot, it is fairly pleasent to the eye. There are some very beutiful environments in WoW but i'm not quite sure if DAoC has anything like this.

2: Crafting. Is there any? Cause WoW has none at the moment...at least I don't consider it crafting. I liked EQ2's crafting system alot...very in depth and appeared that you could make very powerful and usable items.

3: PvE. How long does it take to level in DAoC? Now, I don't want a game that will require a year or two to attain max level...but I also don't want to play a game where you can level from scratch in a week (see WoW). Another big concern is the ability to solo the PvE content. I love this about WoW; you can go 1-60 all on your own. This is the main reason I left EQ2...because after level 20 or so...you pretty much had to 5 man simple quests...like killing bears and stuff.

4: PvP. Now this, as I hear it, appears to be DAoC's bread n' Butter. PvP sucks balls in WoW...pure and simple. Long q's only to be steamrolled. And world PvP consists of nothing but ganking. Not quite sure what Realm vs Realm means but it sounds cool. How does PvP work in DAoC?

5: Instances. Again...another thing I like about WoW. I really enjoyed doing the 5 and even 10 mans in WoW. You get good XP...good loot...and is generally entertaining. Are there any in DAoC, and if so, are they any good?

6: Stability. WoW goes down every week...which pisses me off considering the amount of money they are shoveling in. There's also some ranodm bug of something that causes the servers to go down. Now I understand that it's a big job to run one of these games...but if I don't make my payment...my account is instantly shut down...so they can keep the god damn game up. Also, how does the new graphics engine run on older machines. My wife also plays, and her computer is just a tad old. It runs WoW just fine, but struggled with EQ2. Will there be much lag with PvP/raids and such? Her machine runs just fine during large 40 on 40 BG's in WoW...if that gives something to compare it to.

7: Community. WoW's community just plain sucks. If it isn't the Allakhazam jokes...it's some momma joke or something else that's equally stupid and juvenille. Plus, people are just ******** on that game. Are the people that play DAoC older than 12 and will lend a hand to new players without throwing insults around?

I think that's pretty much it. I know it's a long post but I want to be totally sure before I cancel again. Thanks.

**The free trial is the old graphics engine. If you purchase the Epic Edition in stores, or upgrade to the Darkness Rising client (cost of 29.99 if you do it online..I think the store bought version is cheaper), the graphics are great. I would say equal to WoW, but less cartoonish.

2: Crafting. Is there any? Cause WoW has none at the moment...at least I don't consider it crafting. I liked EQ2's crafting system alot...very in depth and appeared that you could make very powerful and usable items.
**The crafting here is very important, but also very time consuming and expensive. They are making changes in a month or two, but nobody knows for sure what they are going to do. They hinted that it would be easier to level a crafter to encourage new people to the game (most players here are several years old..unfortunately not a lot of new people come to this game) to take up crafting and bridge the gap between veterans and newbs. So yes, crafting is here, but it is more time consuming and not fun at all, however, the items made are in demand and can alone provide you with enough funds to do most anything in the game.

3: PvE. How long does it take to level in DAoC? Now, I don't want a game that will require a year or two to attain max level...but I also don't want to play a game where you can level from scratch in a week (see WoW). This is the main reason I left EQ2...because after level 20 or so...you pretty much had to 5 man simple quests...like killing bears and stuff. Well, power leveling does exist here..If you have the right people doing it for you, it can be done in under a week. However, that is not normal. For YOU to do it (not knowing anyone willing to do it the PL'ing way), it will take you a few weeks to maybe two months to reach 50, depending on how much you play. It used to take maybe 40 or 50 days played (that is 24 hour days), but Catacombs has reduced that time down dramatically. you can do it through normal leveling in maybe 10-20 days played now as a guess for a typical person/class. Almost any toon can go to level 50 on their own, however some specs that would not be practical (such as a healing specced cleric..smite specced sure). A lot of people go the easy leveling spec to at least 40, then you get a free respec at 40, and you can switch to a spec that you would want as your final spec.

**There are three realms, each realm owns 7 keeps and 28 towers (4 towers near the keeps). The whole frontier (a seperate area from where you level, so you won't be ganked, except one server which is free-for-all everywhere) is open to anyone, and keep sieges, roaming 8-man groups, large zergs, and solos (mainly stealthers, but some visible toons also roam solo) are present nealry every day. There are also six relics (two per realm), that give whichever realm own them bonuses, which helps create the incentive to siege keeps and zerg.

That is the end 50 game (although a low level toon can go there, you would stand no chance). for people under 50, there are battle groups for every 5 levels, so toons 29-34 have a bg for themselves. Killing people from the other realms give you realm points, which you can spend to get extra abilities or extra stats. It is definitely what this game is about, and no other game has anything near it.

**DAoC is very stable. They have patches/upgrades every few months which cause some downtime, but then you are good to go again until the next patch. There is lag issues on crowded servers, but if you have a good connection, it is hardly noticeable at all unless you are in huge zerg areas (100+ people relic raids for instance).

7: Community. WoW's community just plain sucks. If it isn't the Allakhazam jokes...it's some momma joke or something else that's equally stupid and juvenille. Plus, people are just @#%^s on that game. Are the people that play DAoC older than 12 and will lend a hand to new players without throwing insults around?
**never played WoW, but have heard that it is a very immature community. Here, I have heard is much more mature. you can join a guild, and up to 21 guilds can join an alliance. Most /as are geared so you don't get spam. you can't talk to people from other realms, but you can emote, and there is a lot of /rofl and /rude after kills, but that is sort of the spirit of the game.

Try it out, I think you will like it and be addicted in no time : )

DAoC's enviormental graphics are not nearly as cartoony as WoW. Some of the enviornments are actual real life places that they've added to the game. Water looks like water, the sky looks like the sky.

2: Crafting. Is there any? Cause WoW has none at the moment...at least I don't consider it crafting. I liked EQ2's crafting system alot...very in depth and appeared that you could make very powerful and usable items.

There is crafting, but its not nearly as easy as most other games. Its extremely boring as well, but it will help your end game to have crafters.

3: PvE. How long does it take to level in DAoC? Now, I don't want a game that will require a year or two to attain max level...but I also don't want to play a game where you can level from scratch in a week (see WoW). It should take you a few months to get a lvl 50 with some classes. (necro not included!) Plenty of classes can solo but with the new task dungeons its not hard to find a group.

There are 3 realms fighting over 6 Relics. Each Relic owned gives that realm a certain percentage strength or magic bonus. There is no que'ing. You zone in and a way you go to fight for your realm. There are 7 keeps with 3 towers each, with 2 relic temples per realm. Lots of area to fight. Huge massive HUNDRED+ player raids can occur. Its like a real battle. If you die you just release to the portal keep and do it all over again.

5: Instances. Again...another thing I like about WoW. I really enjoyed doing the 5 and even 10 mans in WoW. You get good XP...good loot...and is generally entertaining. Are there any in DAoC, and if so, are they any good?

Yes! Instances are the fastest ways to level!

6: Stability. WoW goes down every week...which pisses me off considering the amount of money they are shoveling in. There's also some ranodm bug of something that causes the servers to go down. If your computer runs WoW you'll be able to run DAoC. RvR can lag even the best computers during the larger raids. There is very little down time ever.

7: Community. WoW's community just plain sucks. If it isn't the Allakhazam jokes...it's some momma joke or something else that's equally stupid and juvenille. Most of the people who play DAoC are older and more experienced. Rarely will you run into a stupid kid. Guilds are more than helpful in outfitting and leveling their mates. You'll love it!
