I bought a ticket for a boat, but when I try to get on it, I fall in the water and eventually the boat leaves. Advice?

Once the boat arrives, double click it and you'll be seated.
Did you give the ticket back to the ticket merchant before trying to click and load the boat?
either double click it, or you can click it once and type /vboard
You will automatically be dropped off when the boat route ends, but if you want to jump sooner, you have to type /disembark.
I am assuming you are talking about New Frontiers boats (or the new mainland boats). ToA boats work a bit differently.
