Confused....Follow

ok, so this game is pretty good...

BUT....there are some things that are confusing me a bit.

The main thing though, is skills, styles, and whatever...

If I am understanding it all, skills are the weapons (if using, say, a Warrior), like axe, or left axe, or sword.

A style is the abilities opened up by putting points in a skill, like "splitter" and "cleave" for axe. Styles and Spells are the "same" thing, just different class.

You can level up a skill (axe, or sword, or shield), but you cannot level up a style. Once you have a style, nothing can change that style to make it stronger, right? If so, does the style get stronger as you level up (automatically)?

Now...lets say I am a Thane. I put points into Stormcalling, and according to this site (http://www.camelotherald.com/spells/line.php?c=38&line=106), at level 14, I can take Thor's Power. Or, does that mean, once Stormcalling is up to level 14, I can take Thor's Power?

I guess, what I am asking now is, what are the level requirements for Thor's Power (for example)? Is it my character level, or is it the "skill" level?

This leveling system seems much different than other leveling systems I have seen in other games. And I think I will really enjoy this system if it is the way I think it is....

I wonder, is there a guide somewhere that really discribes the leveling system in better detail? The "blurb" in the manual really didn't explain it much, at least not enough for me to grasp it.

One more thing on this....

I just read about respeccing a "skill line". Does that mean, I would be able to say, take back all the points I have put into axes, and move them over to Sword?

I guess I am asking, basically, as I level, I get specialization points. I can put these points into a skill line, which opens up styles/spells. I cannot put any points into the styles/spells (splitter) to make them stronger. I can only put points into the skill line (axes). I can later, respec axes, and take swords. Is this correct? I have noticed that, at least with Warriors and Thanes (the only two classes I have done anything with so far), there are several skill lines to choose from. So really, this offers PLENTY of opportunity to make my Warrior a bit different from the Warrior right next to me. Is this all correct thinking?

Thanks

Chris

good questions. We were all new to the game once upon a time

You basically have the jist of it. You put points into the skill lines to gain spells/styles. You can't make the styles themselves better. In fact, styles always do the same percentage of "extra" damage to you baseline damage. They may also help you hit more often or increase your defenses. You can raise your baseline damage by increasing your strength some, and by doing that you also increase your style damage.

For your specific question on thanes, you would not get the level 14 Thor's Power spell until you reached level 14 in stormcalling...being a level 14 thane does not get it.

Normal casters do get some spells just by leveling. For instance, a SM has a baseline summoning spell set and a specline summoning spell set. For a level 20 baseline spell, all he needs to do is be level 20. For a specline spell in summoning, he would have to train to level 20, thus spending those points.

Hybrids, like your thane, do not get baseline spells. You do get a few abilities just by leveling that I saw on the herald.
They are:
Sprint, Protect I (10), Protect II (20), Intercept (15), Tireless (15), Call of a Thousand Storms (40)

Now, for the respecs, there are two types of respecs...full respecs and single line respecs.

If you get a full respec (or a Mythic respec), this will reset all your skills to level 1, thus it is like starting over and you can completely change your character. If you only use a single-line respec, you can reset your stormcalling to level 1, and gain any spec points you previously spent in that line and put them into whatever you choose, even back into stormcalling.

Good luck to you and enjoy the game. I hope I answered your questions okay, but if you are still unclear, feel free to ask some more. I check in fairly often to help, but these forums are not used that much. However, plenty of other great information can be found on this site.

thanks for the answer!!

I am slowly "getting" it. It is making some more sense to me.

My character that I am playing right now is a lvl 11 Minotaur Warrior. I have been putting most all of my skill points into Axes, with some in Parry. Not sure how effective that will be later, but that seems to work out pretty good right now.

I am also looking for a good, fun guild to get into...so if anyone knows where to look for recruitment, I would like to know. I was told that there is a space somewhere on the Herald that I can find guilds that are hiring. But so far, I have not been able to find anything.

Thanks

nothing wrong with axe/parry. you could also go shield axe and swing a one handed weapon, but you would take longer to kill things that way.

Anyway, here is the link to the herald's community page. You want to select the topics that say Guild News. those are the ones with guilds recruiting people. Find a mid guild on your cluster and ask away. The good news is they are clustering PvE zones. That may mean a doubling or tripling of the population in those area, so it may become easier to find groups for new peeps.
