I didn't play v1, did anyone use gamepads in that version? If so, what type/brand did you use? did you use wireless or corded? What are your plans for the new version? Thanks!

This is the one I use:

Everyone says to use MotionInJoy and use your PS3 controller but I've never had any luck getting that set up. If I could though I'd probably do that in the long run, the wires from this one are annoying. It's a great controller however, aside from the wired bit.

I used a regular wired 360 controller. Which worked well enough for the most part. Though back when I was playing they were still working a lot on targeting. There were many updates with changes to targeting settings. They may be different now from what I remember. "Perfected" I hope.Smiley: grin

I've also gotten used to playing SWTOR with a G600 gaming mouse. So if I get back into XIV I'll try both that and the 360 controller. See what works best for me.

If this happens this will be my controller. I don't own a Wiii U.

How good is the battery?
Has anyone used a keyboard interface on the controller? Is it responsive?

I used MotionJoy and a PS3 controller. You used to have to disable driver signing if you're running Vista or Win7 but that may have changed. I was able to use the same setup in FFXI a couple months ago with driver signing enabled.

I have MotionJoy and my PS3 controller on my computer at the moment, but if the gamepad ends up being very handy on ARR then I will be buying a wired 360 controller. I just like the feel of the 360 controller and its triggers more.

I grammar Nazied myself. It is "its", not "it's" when possesive!

I used ps3 with motion joy for some time. There is also the official FFXIV white controller that I bought, and I wouldn't recommend you get that. The dead zone shifted in the right analog, making my camera constantly turn. I didn't like the 360 controller because the D-pad isn't reliable, and I'd accidentally hit up and down delaying my inputs. I was more comfortable with my ps2 controller though, since I also used that for FFXI. I even set up my button inputs the same way ^_^.

I just purchased the U boost and It arrived today. The battery on the controller isn't very good I'm afraid. You'll get about 2 hours of constant play. U boost apparently doubles it. The battery pack isn't available yet as amazon has it listed as "Usually ships in 3-5 weeks," meaning the product isn't ready I guess. The Uboost along side the battery pack is supposedly able to give you 20 hours of game play.

As for the keyboard, I wouldn't recommend it. It's would be slow. The letters don't have much distance between them. Unless you type using the stylus, you'll spend more time correcting typos than conveying your message.

I used the wired xbox 360 controller for windows. It worked pretty well once they updated it to actually be supported. Before that I had to map every single button in the FFXIV config, which you couldn't run at the same time as the game, so it was confusing for me to make sure I got every button where I wanted it. It took quite a lot of loading into the game, checking, logging back out to boot the config, logging back into the game to check... Other than that, it worked really well. The UI was much easier for me to navigate with the controller than with the keyboard and mouse, and I like the feel of moving my character around with the thumb sticks instead of WASD. I will definitely be using it in 2.0.

I also used the wired XBOX 360 controller for Windows. Worked perfectly fine for me.

I wasn't able to set it up either, but I think we can expect native support this time, so you shouldn't need it.

That looks badass! There could be some handy functionality with that, particularly if they can make touch-targeting happen.

I used a Logitech Cordless Rumblepad 2.

http://gadgets.softpedia.com/images/gadgets/gallery/large/Logitech-Cordless-Rumblepad-2-Gamepad-1.jpg

Been using it for 2 years now, and it's a pretty solid gamepad. I'm thinking of getting the new Razer Sabertooth.

Xbox 360 controller with PC adapter works fantastically. I played FFXIV 1.0 the entire time with it....and I always wondered whether the xbox keypad would allow me to chat with folks too, all from the controller. That'd be dope.

That is what I was hoping to do, my PC adapter is arriving tomorrow and I was thinking that I could use that with a new wireless controller with a new game for an all NEW experience when the game comes out, or if I manage a beta invite at some point :)

That's the one I use as well - but the F710 version which is the next gen.

F710 Logitech

It's an awesome controller that has a switch to change between Direct input and Xbox 360. So for those games that have native 360 support you don't have to do any config at all, and I used the direct input with FFXI\XIV so that the triggers worked right on Windows.

I am using this USB Adapter and a PS2 controller hooked up to it. Its perfect and reminds me of my FFXI PS2 days. The Adapter I use has no issues and the mapping for the PS2 controller is made for the game.

I have something similar to that, but I've had issues getting it to be recognized as an actual USB controller by games that claim to do that (most of them mean Xbox controller when they say "controller" which is irritating).

I'd have a hard time giving up my Nostromo (http://www.razerzone.com/gaming-keyboards-keypads/razer-nostromo) for playing MMOs though. It really is the king of all cosmos.

I'm fairly new to PC gaming, as I've only had my rig since September, and those things intimidate me. It just seems so complex in my head.

I used one for SWTOR and GW2. It's not the most comfortable thing ever-- I still vastly prefer a gamepad/keyboard combo-- but it's a distant second. You can at least play most games using only that and a mouse. I find the keyboard and mouse intolerable... how are you supposed to be efficient when you're constantly moving your hand placement?

Yeah it weirded me out too, but then I got one as a gift so I figured I'd give it a shot.

What I did was set it up to map shift, ctrl, and alt modifiers on the 3 leftmost buttons, numbers 1 - 9 on the 3x3 grid in the middle, - and = on the two orphaned buttons at the top and 0 (zero) on the big thumb button at the bottom.

Then I set up my MMO's hotbars to respond to that layout, using 0 as a "large cooldown" button. With shift, ctrl, alt, and comfortably ctrl+alt as modifiers I can do a lot with that.

Ironically the only MMOs I've found that don't really work super well with it are the ones that severely limit the number of buttons you get (like Guild Wars 2 or The Secret World). I've made it work, but only through contrivance. It works REALLY well on games like WoW or SWTOR or Rift though where you need a bazillion keybinds at your disposal.
