Since the partial nda lift, I've sort of wondered if it was finally cool for people to say whether or not they were beta testers. I remember Wint blamming a few threads because of it. So, what's the official word on this?

I don't believe there's been an official word. But, around here, if someone is talking about their opinions of the things to do around Gridania, chances are they're a beta tester. There's nothing wrong with making that known. You don't need to wear a sign that says you are, or to make an announcement.

Yeah, I believe the partial lift pretty much includes mentioning you were, but it's a super thin line.

Like saying "I was a beta tester, trust me" is practically breaking nda when discussing opinions outside of character creation or gridania. I would just stay on the side of caution.

Yeah you can say you're in the beta, and you're allowed to talk about what you've seen withing the confines of the Character Creator and within the walls of Gridania itself. No combat or other things that are available outside of Grid.

I'll keep this short. My personal thoughts on Character creation was that it is very limited. There are a TON of options, but all of the options are extremely "subtle" changing your character's appearance in a small way. You won't find cheek bone, chest size, leg size, eye spacing, mouth height, hair length/height sliders and the sort like you might find on many other games. You'll find "jaw shape" and "eye shape" or "nose type" and "character height", but all display changes in a very subtle way.

I'm thinking the character creation may be limited so that we don't have any of these running around. S-E likes their pretty characters.

That is true in a way. It doesn't let you take customization of your character to the next level. I had that kind of level in eve online but to be honest it felt pointless. Many people put a lot of time to customize their character but so "in depth" is lost to me. I liked the simple choices it gave me to be honest. But hey i even liked the really REALLY limited options back in WoW so yea.

Besides that i wouldn't say no to a chest size option....if you know what i mean! Smiley: sly

Lol True. I don't personally mind it. But that's not to say many others won't be disappointed.

I quit WoW once I got my beta invite. Was hooked right at the creation screen with the customization options. Have no plans to resub for WoW in the foreseeable future and i can't wait for ARR.

Bear in mind that the Phase 2 character creator had many options locked. Hopefully we'll get a few more choices in Phase 3.

It wasn't the amount of options that was lacking. There were actually quite a few. It was the amount of change that came with those options that was the problem. Way too subtle, all the chins, the eyebrows, the eyes, etc,....they all look almost the same.

edit: ...and now I'm out of love

correct me if i'm wrong... but doesn't the road map say that as the beta gets farther into its phases that more creator options will be available? so maybe there holding out on us a lil in seeing changes for now...

Possibly, but read my post above. My intention there is not to criticize it but to merely state the facts and hopefully set a realistic expectation in peoples' minds. Don't expect to be totally blown away by customization, that's all.

So basically the first time you log on, presuming you start a new character, you'll spend an hour or so getting your character to look just right. I know I will.

Your one character can do all the jobs so it won't be like having a bunch of alts you can play with, s/he has to look just right upon creation.

..Seriously, I cannot wait for ARR..
