Summoning?Follow

I am aware that the summons will roam the earth and all that goodness... and in knowing that i wonder what will the summoner actually use as its summons especially if all the staple avatars are going to be part of a story line and only summonable once... so what are we looking at as a summoner? all the elementals like in XI with a side of carby... or do you think there are more ideas up there sleeve with this?

As far as I'm aware you'll be able to use mini versions of the primals, in what I can only imagine would be a similar fashion to FFXI.

hmmm I see... Thanks for bring that to my attention

I read it as Summoners will rely a lot on the "espers" or elementals, and the Primals were powerful one-offs.

i hope we see Fenrir again as a wolf... Was my fav from XI hands down...

We really have no idea, but it will probably be something like proto-ifrit, etc.

I'm wondering how the ywill handle it because Yoshi stated he didn't want everyone running around with their own personal Ifrit.. So maybe an Ifrit-inspired summon?

Or will they be miniature Ifrits? then they wouldn't be intimidating or awesome looking... If they are just "inspired by" then Summoner would lack a certain flair though..

Thats kinda what I was getting at in my head... Where is that flare for SMN in XIV cause I thought I had read that somewhere my self as well ... Really makes my second guess as to how they will go about a lot of different jobs ... How different can they make it ;P all part of the excitement and wait I guess

Maybe they'll be used similar to how Yuna works in Dissidia. Something Folklore-esque where each skill is a different summon attacking? Maybe Limit Breaks with a summoner in the party will be used to summon the big guys instead.

^^ Jawesome.

I was also thinking, from the Smn concept art, they could just be floating half-bodies or semi-transparent "ghostly" apparitions, as the description says, you are borrowing a part of the Primals power.

Minifrits? Just being able to call them that would be worth it.

I would think that the primals would have minions themselves, so maybe when you use a summon you get a henchman instead of the boss. The minions wouldn't necessarily look like the primal, Ifrit could have a hell hound for example...

From what I've heard, the primals will be available for a Free Company to win and summon.

So.... basically, a free company claims and defeats Ifrit. For the next week or so, their summoners WITH THEIR POWERS COMBINED can summon Ifrit all together and use him for fights. The contract expires after a week and he respawns and can be claimed by a different Free Company.

Summoners will probably use the sprites otherwise.

Hmm, I heard that it was a one and done kinda thing. You use it once, and then it's released back into the wild.

ive read the one and done as well... Would make more sense as a weekly thing tho

Do they have to speak in horribly faked accents while doing so?

No. Yoshi said he's against this, which is why ARR's summoner isn't a typical type of summoner in the FF series. Free Companies summon the actual beast, players summon "essences" which as far as we know is basically putting (element) into a puppet.

maybe carby takes different forms with each element? Sounds feasible don't it?

This is what I remember, like you won't have a mini version, but maybe they would appear and cast a spell then go away, kinda like how they worked in VII.

But this would defeat the purpose of adding a Pet class, and I would be really disappointed to not get a pet when /job. If they didn't take Carbuncle away when /job and gave you spells, I would be ok with it.

Hrm, if the summons aren't even mini versions and only stay in as summon animations like the PSX FF games, I'm not sure I'll enjoy the job as much. For some reason, I thought the primal storyline would enable summoners to have access to as many summons as the devs put in the game (the throwbacks of the dozens or so in the series). No idea why I thought it would be something huge like that.

Is it possible that the summons available to the summoner are different from those you may fight through storyline or otherwise? Maybe you will be able to fight Garuda, Shiva, Ifrit, Ramuh, and Titan for quests or loot and summoners will be able to summon Odin, Bahamut, Leviathan, Carbuncle, and Phoenix that way there is no overlap between what is seen or interacted with in the world/quests and what summoners are able to control.

Everyone already gets a pet. "Minions" which is why they can easily remove access from others getting arcanist/summoner pets cross classed. It doesn't really defeat the purpose since you're imbuing a puppet with the primal essence., meaning you still have a pet.

It shouldn't be called summoner, but whatcha gonna do? People told him to completely ignore FFXI lol.

That's not how those minions work though. They just follow you around blinking with those dead, dead eyes. Summoner will summon a pet. They wouldn't go through the trouble of programming pet mechanics for Carbuncle and then not carry that over to the job portion.. It would just be a waste of good code.

Yoshida is a free spirit and will seemingly waste that code lol. Even from Dat mines it doesn't sound like anything any FF SMN has ever done before...it sounds more like PUP if anything.
