So I'm thinking about going Black mage, bard or warrior. now I know black mage and bard are ranged and warrior is close range, but I do like to see big axe and swords sometimes ^^. But I do like to do a lot of dmg is black mage the best choice for the best damage dealer in game? or is it warrior? and bard, well idk exactly what they do? give buff?

Since they've completely retooled the class/jobs, I'm not sure anyone can answer that question yet. I think that from 1.0, blm was pretty much the best DD... and it was certainly one of the best for a lot of activities in FFXI, so it's probably a safe bet.

On the other hand, melee are fun if you like being up-close and personal. They've always been my favorite classes, I like being right on the front line.

Warrior had an identity crisis throughout 1.0 as being DD and tank.

Monk was a physical magic damage dealer? That was the best way to explain it?

Dragoon was really good if you had the right grand company gearset.

BLM was really good for most things. Especially Primals and the second half of Aurum Vale.

I had a good laugh at the first one lol. The indecisive warrior xP Question though...Were Rangers just not really much of a DD class?

You mean Bard? They were decent damage. But they were crowd control.

For Garuda, she spawns wind adds that you have to dispose of. Bards AoE Wide Volley WS cleans those up nicely.

For the most part, out of the DoW classes archer/bard had the 2nd lowest DD output. The lowest was gladiator/paladin, which wasn't expected to do massive amounts of DD anyways. Bard was mainly for support. They didn't have many songs, but they were pretty much indispensable for most, if not all, of the end game content. You needed 1 for pretty much everything involving a full 8 man party. BLM were good for massive single target DD. The chimera boss at the end of Cutter's Cry was a good example of this. Dragoon shined when you needed to take out large groups of enemies very quickly. Their AoE physical attacks took care of those pesky antlings nicely.

Really the only fights that had a set job list for 8 man content were hard mode darnus and iffy x, and they had multiple setups.

My ls used 3xdrg, 2xwar, 1xpld, 2xwhm for iffy x and 3xdrg, 2xwhm, 2xblm, 1xpld for darnus

AV/CC you could literally use whatever you wanted we did an 8mnk coincounter one time

Warrior could tank anything just as well as pld except for iffy x and darnus after that beauty pld update

brd were awesome in dungeons for collecting chests because of swiftsong, but since you could job swap mid-dungeon brd was never used in the final fight, just buff and swap.

melee DD output was dependant on the boss and the player, one time we had a war out DD all 3 drg on iffy x

play what you want all jobs were useful, dont play something you dont want because its "better" than something else, play what you want and find out how to make it work. All endgame events take time and forming varying strategies to win and you will fit into one of them.
