Agreed, having watched a ridiculous amount of anime in my lifetime. At the end of VII I vividly remember turning to my GF (at the time) and saying "WTF?! That was it?"
To be honest, that was my and my fiancee reaction when I 100% completed XIII-2 and we saw the "perfect" ending....
Then one minute after, I realize : So that's why they are announcing downloading content...
The bad part is...these didn't make the ending better whatsoever...
Then again...the ending couldn't be good, they were announcing what was gonna happen since the last half of the game.
At least on FFVII, you had the chance to wonder what really happened. Even if it was a "WTF!" moment.
I do like this post on Gamespot about "weird endings".
