I have a quick question about how armor will be handled.Follow

Ok, so im sure all of us that played FF11 remembers going through the AF quests, and then winding up learning that our AF gear actually sucks a big fat **** outside of maybe the helmit (most of the time it was the helmits that were the only good parts).

So you'd wind up running around with like, half your AF suite or something, and the other half being like red bondage straps and ****, and then stopping and realizing one day how stupid looking you've actually become in your attempt to stay up to par with everyone else in strength for teaming.

I honestly DESPISED that part about the game. I really, seriously, sincerely hated it.

The look of the job class is part of the world/characters/classes charm and personality. It makes you feel good wearing that stuff, as opposed to a differently colored leather jerkin that just conveniently is stronger then your hard earned class armors.

So what im wondering here, after that short rant, is how will the class specific armors be handled in ARR? Will we wind up in the same mess as before with how we were forced to look to compete? or will we be able to keep our snazzy class gear, even if it's just for show and the actual armor underneath is totally different (sorta like how TSW handles it's character aesthetics).

has this been discussed at all yet? or is this still something that's just up in the air.

Didn't I hear somewhere that there will be a vanity armor thing that functions like WoW's transmit feature? Also, here is a question of my own because I can't remember. We won't have gear swapping in combat will we? I hated having to get all that hecatomb gear and swap it out swap with macros for weapon skills. Please tell me this is a thing of the past.

Vanity gear, yes, but I believe Yoshi has said it will not apply to AF at first. No gear swapping, either.

Wait, does that mean that you can't put vanity stuff over AF armor? Or you can't use your AF as vanity armor (yet)?

You can't use vanity gear in place of your AF armor. It is possible that both apply, but I know Yoshi mentioned he didn't want the job identities to be compromised by allowing us to put different gear over our AF. Down the line he mentioned this will change.

We understand your comments and so we took them back and reconfirmed with the development team and are able to clarify that you cannot change gear while in battle.

Whenever you're on an enemy's hate list (e.g. a paladin that's tanking Ifrit), you won't be able to change your gear. Hopefully that clears everything up, and we apologize for the initial confusion caused.

I love that you won't be able to switch gear in combat....I DESPISED in-combat gear swaps in ffxi. It destroys the continuity of the game to me. Some feel that it adds a strategic element but it felt very "ugh" to me (can't quite describe it but I hated the feeling). I slogged through it to perform well in FFXI but I refuse to play anymore games that would have constant in combat gear swaps. Eventually it turned into "whole set of gear for one spell/ability/ws" then switch back. It caused occasional healer targeting issues and the character was always blinking in and out. All around I welcome "NO IN-COMBAT SWAPS"

BlinkMeNot in Windower was created to solve that issue, but half the time it crashes and you're back to square one.

The way gear sets worked so far in alpha and beta was that you equip a weapon first, which determines the class associated with a gear set, and then you build the rest of your gear set around the weapon. So initially you'll just have a gear set for each class (separate gear for botanist, separate gear for archer, etc). Best thing is? Once gear is locked into a gear set, ITS GONE FROM INVENTORY! The downside is that you can't share gear between classes. without manually removing the piece first.

real men/adorable tarutaru girls commandlined everytime xD

I agree no blinking models would be welcome all around but I do miss the little bit of speadsheeting you could do by having optimal gear for everything. :P (albeit with gimp command lines if you were going to go about it in a legit manner)

I completely agree. I remember leveling bard and never hearing my instruments play because blinking to another gear set also stopped the song. A little thing maybe, but it got to me.

This has been changed for phase 3 hasn't it? You get a big armour box and you can make up sets from that and you can share them all across all your classes.

I know the issue is on their radar, not sure when it will be fixed.

Yeah, I read it somewhere as well, I believe it was one of the live letter Q and A's. I definitely know I saw this and that the issue has been fixed.
