Good evening everyone long time follower first time posting here. First I would like to say thank you to all the people who keep this site going it has been my source of information to feed my addiction while I wait for this game to come out, been waiting since 1.0 since I do not have a PC that can run the game with the settings I would like. Sadly my PS3 would run it better with a smoother FPS.

Now my question is and I apologize if this has been asked but I have been following the forums for some time and I don't recall this being asked. If I create a lancer/conjurer in say Gridania and level him up and start the main story quests there, then move to Ul'dah and switch to pugilist (which I want as my main class/job) am I able to continue the main story in the Ul'dah areas or do I have to go back to Gridania if I want to continue with the main story?

Thanks in advance for any help on this Smiley: smile

They eventually converge, but your home nation will be still Gridania no matter what to my understanding.

What I did was start as Conjurer, then just switch to Gladiator. You could start as an Ul'dah class and switch later. As a new character though, that might be a bit inconvenient, though since you'll be restricted until level 10.

From what I saw, your starting class also determines all classes R1 & 2 hunting logs. So you'd be best served leveling to 10 in your desired class, moving to Gridania to pickup Conjurer and the Aetheryte teleports and then level both of your classes in Ul'Dah.

You mean determines the locations the hunting log will guide you to? If so that doesn't sound right from what I experienced. Whatever class I switched to had hunting log objectives in their home areas. Con/Lnc/Arc - Shroud, Pug/Thm/Gla - Thanalan, and Mrd in La Noscea.

I'll have to take a look again, but I remember seeing my Gladiator objectives being based in Gridania again. Keep in mind though, I was on a 1.0 character who already had access to Gladiator. I'll make note to check it out.

Yea, what I just described was from a new character. I didn't really look at my 1.0 character's hunting log the brief time I was on it.

There's main story and class quest line, if I'm not mistaken. I'd imagine that if you started a GLD after leveling another class a bit you could continue your main story quest as the GLD but the questline itself would be at the level you left it at before. So, do up to lv20 story on your CNJ and then switch to GLD you'd probably want to get to GLD20 before you could continue. Naturally I could be wrong, but that just feels relatively correct.

This isn't true. My Thaumaturge and Conjurer Hunting Log Rank 1 and 2 locations are in totally different areas.

Main story will be determined by your (new) home city state, which is the one you either start in (or in case of legacy, first came back to). It only last until lvl 15 though, after that level the main story is merged together into one.

Thanks for all the feedback I assumed it would be as you all said and I would have to finish it up in the city I started in. Another question if you level one class up in Ul'dah and then want to level another class but you have completed all the quests in the area are you pretty much stuck doing FATE, guildleve, dungeons, grinding?

Yeah, you're going to have to do a lot more grinding on your 2nd/3rd/etc classes. Unless they add more quests outside of the ones in your starting area there won't be many to do after that. the Hunter's Logs are a really nice way to gain EXP as well. You have to kill 5ish of a couple types of monsters and you get a big chunk of EXP. after you complete all 10 logs in a Rank you get another, larger, EXP chunk. I gained nearly a full level doing the three logs that required you to do a dungeon and finishing off the whole Rank 2 set.

Grand company hunt logs similar to regular hunt logs but just bigger targets I assume?

I'm not sure, I wasn't able to see them lol. I was going to look into it further next test. I got credit for NM's during leves and FATE mobs
