Naming conventions of the five racesFollow

I saw this on the official forums, and thought that somebody here might be interested (e.g. RPers or people looking for an accurate name for their XIV character).

Hyur Naming Conventions

Elezen Naming Conventions

Miqo'te Naming Conventions

Lalafell Naming Conventions

Roegadyn Naming Conventions (Roegadyn Dictionary; for those hard-to-spell names)

Each thread has descriptions for names of each sub-race, as the names are sometimes different. For example, Seawolf Roegadyn tend towards traditional names made up of word combinations in their old language, where Hellsguard use more common words. Furthermore, male Hellsguard surnames are frequently animals (such as my character being named Ghost Bear), where female Hellsguard surnames tend to be plants or flowers.

Hope some of you find this useful and/or inspiring. Smiley: smile

That's why the San d'Orians were getting their asses kicked! They were French this whole time!

I always liked that about creative writing and, by extension, game development; that you could create your own backstory and odd cultural systems. I don't and have never RP'd in MMOs, but I do appreciate the work that has gone into making it possible.

Not only that, but I've always been interested in Final Fantasy's mish-mash of lore. Borrowing from the Norse, Greek, Asian, Indian, and places like Eastern Europe.

I might go with Meg Mightblade for my female highlander.

Two that I came across:

Purple Javelin (would be great for a future Dragoon, if you ignore the obvious sexual connotation)
Unseen Lava

Not interested in conventional naming. I saw so many different names, including movie stars. I like being surprised by the various names.

A couple of the last names I often use fit with that female Hellsguard style. Combining that with the Seawolf first name style sounds good to me. I may do something like that if I stick with that race/sex combo.

Hyllthota Zwelfwyrstwyn (Zell Fu virus Twin) - Daughter of the daughter of hell, daughter of "sausage Twelve"

Not that I'm a major stickler against the name, but I hate when people use less than classy names... like Festering "Choose your favorite gross thing."

Other than that most of the surprise names are pretty cool.

I would have uninstalled the game, having seen all that the game had to offer if I had come across that name.

I kinda like how some people are willing to go into that much detail to keep their characters "accurate". Sadly, I go onto a baby name list, and find names that mean what my character is/does.

Though, I'll be glad when the game is finally released, and I won't have to see a hundred "Test" names around...no, seriously: http://na.beta.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/character/?q=test&worldname=&classjob=&order=

You say that like it's a bad thing.

My favorite I saw so far in beta was "Doctor Worm". I'm a big TMBG fan, and every time I saw him (little taru dude) it started me singing...
