Latency on serversFollow

So I'm checking out http://arrstatus.com/ and noticed that most of the NA servers for me are at 80ms except one, Leviathan, which is going back and forth between 60 to 80ms. I thought all the NA servers are in Canada and shouldn't they all have the same latency? How accurate is arrstatus.com and would it be better for me to pick a server that has a lower latency?

I wouldn't read too much into that.

Each of those servers is being pinged separately, so what you're seeing there are the results of a couple dozen pings. Even though they're in the same physical location, the response times might fluctuate slightly.

I've noticed this too over the last 2-3 days, coincidentaly (or not?) with Leviathan consistantly lowest.

I'm not incredibly versed in ping/latency/etc. but if the numbers on the site are the results of dozens of pings, and Leviathan is, on average, the lowest, wouldn't that strengthen the idea that Leviathan is the better server for OP and me?

If this is flawed logic don't hesitate to tell me why and elaborate... though I'm fairly unversed this is interesting to me.

They're all red dots for me. Does that just mean the servers are down?

Without collecting literally thousands of samples, you can't really generate an accurate model.

Since you know that all the servers are in the same place though, we can make some assumptions about what a difference in ping might mean. Odds are it's an aberration created by nothing more than how their network infrastructure is laid out in the datacenter. Either way, a 10ms difference isn't meaningful.

I have about the same for mine. My biggest problem at the moment is party members staying in place on my screen during dungeons and yet they've gone far out of curing range on theirs. I thought it was a latency issue. I know a few other people are having this problem as well.

Just a thought, is the website checking ping for ITS location or yours? It doesn't make sense that we all have similar ping to the servers. Reynault (sp?) the dev says him(her?) self that it's just an experiment.

I'm on the East Coast if it makes any difference

Ahh, never mind. My issue seems to indeed be a bug. Thank god S-E has confirmed it and are planning to address it.
