Mine will be Lancer. I thought that going into phase 3, and now I'm sure.

I always played support or heals in other MMO's, I think I want to be a melee dps this time and LNC or DRG are my favorites. I can't wait to open up DRG. That will be my initial goal from the start.

What are you planning on leveling first?

Conjurer and White Mage for the utility of helping people out whenever I can. I thought I'd only be able to level DoL/DoH and get away with it, but it seems like I can't. I was a WHM main in XI for a few years. Until some kind of Samurai job is released, it looks like I'll be back to that.

SAM was my 2nd favorite DD in FFXI, but I'll always remember the first time I saw a DRG in full AF armor in Windhurst almost 9-10 years ago, I always said that would be me someday!

Wow, has it been that long since FFXI launched? I feel very old.

I deliberately didn't play a tank class (or even visit Limsa, outside of quest reqs) in phase 3 so I would have something extra to look forward to at launch.

I envision my career path as
MRD to 15
To Grid, take LNC (invigorate) to 15
CNJ to 15 because curers are awesome
Alternating GLD and MRD to 50

Can't wait!

I was so convinced to play as BRD, but after trying MRD in Beta I think I'll certainly be WAR. So first I'll stard GLD to leve up to 15 (and because I love Ul'dah) and switch to MRD once I get the airship pass, and then level it all the way up to 50.

My first job will likely involve walking over to the Aetherite and attuning myself to it. In which case I'll be approached by the local guard explaining to me a bit about Teleport and Return.

Then I'll walk my way over to the Market Tycoon and give them some item likely refrencing them to their personality. (Given my choice of Nation it will most likely be a Pie.) In which case the Markets will briefly be explained to me. There's another job there I can pick up from the same guy if I want.

Beyond that I'll get told to visit the Guild of the Class I chose at the beginning of the game. In which case I'll be given a brief description of said class, and, again, have an opportunity to pick up some more tasks to do along the way.

Then I'll head back to the Adventurer Guild leader and pick up my rewa-

Can't wait either.

Can I please get the remote control and fast-forward to launch?

It's still a toss-up between lnc, pug, and mrd for me. I really liked pug and mrd in phase 3, but that drg af is just so incredibly awesome looking that I have to get it. I'll probably start as mrd, and then try and level all 3 simultaneously if I can. Eventually I'll probably have most jobs leveled just for maximum cross-class and job possibilities.

Sounds like you have done that before...

Well, initially, I'll be a MRD so I can start in Limsa Lominsa, but PGL/MNK will be my main. I'll start as MRD, take LNC to, at least, 15, PGL to 30 to unlock MNK and, from there, focus on ARC and LNC to acquire useful cross-class abilities for my PGL/MNK before I dedicate myself to it completely.

Well, as I'm picking up where I left off with my legacy character, I'll likely finish topping off LNC to 30 and unlock the Dragoon class before I do anything else (LNC is 26 and MNK is already at 15).

Then, since I'm an obsessive multi-classer, I'll probably spread my time out over everything. Finish bumping all the classes up to 20 (everything is already at 15-18 if it isn't 20 already), then 25 or 30, before going back and topping off LNC/DRG at 50. If only for the potential added boost to leveling the next job I've heard about once one job is at 50.

I love keeping my class levels uniform way too much. Smiley: frown

CNJ to 30, GLD to 15 for WHM. Then head to 50 or start doing some mining haven't decided yet. If I get good dungeon drops I will probably wait to craft till my WHM is 50. If I am bored I will do some Mining and GSM and watch a movie while I do it.

I think I'll go with THM to start, like I was in Phase 3. Once I get airship access, I'll try out Arcanist as well, since I'd like to try out SCH at some point.

Outside of leveling a few other classes for some cross-class abilities, I plan on sticking with ARC/BRD all the way to 50. After that, I'll probably end up doing lots and lots of crafting

Is there a "support" role/class in FFXIV?

(I noticed only healer, tank and dps roles in the Duty Finder.)

Same here. My plan right now looks like this:

  • Start PUG in Ul'dah; level to 15
  • Go to Gridania, unlock LNC, BTN, CRP, LTW
  • Level LNC to 30; unlock DRG

Most of the people I'm playing with are leaning towards either a tank class or healer. I'm the only person in my group who seems interested in going full-on DPS.

Can you explain why you're doing PUG first? Should I consider doing the same?

I'm guessing it's because you have to take pug to 15 for drg (lnc 30, pug 15) and Uldah seems to be the commerce hub.

Gladiator all the way! No Paladin tho, dont really care for Paladin, truthfully my first job to 50 will be gold smithing and then mining, with my game plan ill probly cap armoring , blacksmithing ,leather crafting all around the same time. The hunt for all HQ gear just is too much fun

Oh okay, thanks for explaining that.

Not to sound dumb, but I literally just started posting and following the forums again a few weeks ago when I started the Beta in P3, and I haven't come across a topic like that yet. ]

My guess is you guys all had these discussion over the past couple of months, and unfortunately I missed those. :(

Catching up now though. :)

Thanks for the help.

Not a problem, we've had lots of dicussions here but it's always good to have more. Heck, I'm still torn on just starting in Uldah as well, since I know it will be the commercial mecca and I plan to level lots of crafting and gathering classes. However, I already did the story in phase 3 for Uldah, so I'll prob stick with LL and then just sign up for the Uldah Grand Company. I also know where everything is in Uldah... not so much for LL or Grid.

I would like to try SCH because I like to heal, but don't like the WHM concept/gameplay really. SCH with hots sounds like more fun and I like the general appearance more too.

As of right now, those are the only three roles available. BRD is the closest to a support class, but it's a DPS first and foremost. ACN, SCH, and SMN may also display support class tendencies but probably in a similar manner to BRD.

I just posted a new thread wow you must have been replying when I was doing that... sorry.

I actually was going to post a new thread but there was so much activity in this one I went ahead and posted it, then realized it was going to get buried...

Thanks for the reply.
