Same here, and my favorite job by far. I'm crossing my finger they'll add in a similar type job some time in the future... right now nothing comes close.

+1

Me too - It's what got me into all this MMO business in the first place. Been waiting so long for BST in FFXIV and I really hope they do implement it someday :)

I suppose we will have to play with Arcanist/Summoner/Scholar until they come out with it, which they will I'm sure. They seem to really want pet classes in this game so I have a feeling we will see it sooner rather than later.

I personally hope and want to lean toward it being a tank class. We will already have DD and Healer Pet classes, so this seems to be an obvious route. Besides, I think it would be awesome to use an Adamantoise or some other animal to tank bosses. I suppose they could make the weapon change what kind of pet you summon and by extent what party role you are. These are the kind of crazy things they are going to need to come up with to keep this job system from getting stagnant.

I think anyone who leveled the job old school (bombs vs flies in Gusgen, bombs vs bats in Garlaige, the list goes on and on), wants to see the job happen with some form of charm. I'd also be up CC making a comeback. Leveling bst to 75 solo or in small bst parties was probably one of my best experiences in XI.

Charm was drew many to BST because that's what let you solo for exp. However, if leveling wasn't so dependent on getting into parties and the game allowed most jobs in general the ability to solo, Charm probably wouldn't have been necessary. Charm also became a sticking point with any content where there weren't charmable mobs (Sea, Abyssea, Nyzul, Salvage, etc).

I think that in general, FFXIV has gotten away from problems that drove people to playing BST in order to charm mobs. If BST in FFXIV doesn't have to rely on charm, you don't need to design content that has charmable mobs.

When Abyssea came out and they buffed jug pets in FFXI, many BSTs wanted to see a pet system where your summoned pet was more personal and would develop (level up, sort of) with you. Perhaps BST in FFXIV will be able to explore that type of play. Even without Charm, BST could have a similar type of crowd control. Perhaps something like Tame, but with lower cool down like Charm, where a successful use of the ability would cause the mob to go passive and wander away from the player before it could become aggressive again.

I would love to see some sort of pet class where the companion leveled up beside you. Although I have to question it's plausibility given the other pet classes don't have such a feature?

The few things that really made me love that job was all the "Killer" traits, the thought of locking eyes togather with a gaint scorpion and haven him sense his own death in your eyes and being intimidated was really freakin sweet for me, so i hope they add that again. Charming was really cool, haveing wild beasts respect the beast with in you and fight by your side. If there is no Druid class or Beastmaster class then i just play a tank so hopefully one day soon!

Ah, remember when BSTs weren't welcome in parties because a certain game guide incorrectly said it reduced everyone's XP when the pet was out? Good times. Goes /brd and sings monsters to death (mostly mine).

If BST gets added into the game, I hope PUP ends up branching off the same class—something like tamer. They could make one a tank and the other a close range DPS. That way, between BST, PUP, SCH, and SMN, you have a pet class for every role.

I think mainly in FF11 (and also for FFXIV) I wanted/want is a job that allowed for an area to be tamed. Where you can go to a zone and think "How can I make this work?" "How can I make this my own"

I am thinking they will just say, look at chocos, those level up beside you and fight with you, and will ignore pet classes altogether.

I tried leveling BST but never got it past 25 or 35. It was fun, but the randomness of charm duration really bugged me. Even with the best possible gear and every sub job I could only take so many uncharmed deaths before switching to something else XD. The Monster Insignia never seemed to be enough lol.

It was a bit better when I was duoing with my friend, but I think we hit a dry spot in leveling when we started so it was short lived. We spent a lot of time doing the lvl 20 BCNM with the bats as a BST duo. I ended up getting Utsusemi: Ichi out of that after 8 or so runs.

Ahh you missed out big time unfortunately. The mischarms were part of the thrill but with the best gear and food you could drastically decrease this happening and when you got to 51 then the Apollo stave along with AF gear would virtually stop mischarms :)

Part of the difficulty levelling BST in XI was the death penalty (at least for me). I remember jumping up and down from level 37-41 over about a week in one area I've forgotten the name of now, but it was a bay type of area with something like puks in it.
I always play pet classes when I can and I'm sure I'll play whatever is there in ARR.

Even with +50ish CHA at my level I still felt the stinging pain of mischarms. I do recall hearing about the staff doing wonders for BST and BRD though. I eventually leveled it up when I came back last year, but it was in Aby so I could solo/duo stuff for gear since so few people farmed it anymore.

The only job more painful for me to level then BST in FFXI was BLU...

BST I must have died continuously trying to charm mobs until finally giving up around level 40...

BLU was just a major pain killing the same mob for hours to farm a spell... god that was mind-numbing.

Not to mention nobody would group with a BLU at the lower levels.

I hope it branches off of Archer this time and allows you to keep your pets. No more hitting mobs with a tiny axe and losing your "charm".

Haha, yes it was a pain to get all of those spells. Up until 65 or so I just HAD to have every possible spell I could before I would go out and party. After that the spells became much harder to obtain while solo and the only ones I didn't have were those gained in the later CoP areas. It always sucked being partied with another BLU that had the spells, but had poor gear/didn't play properly. They would still put out bigger numbers than me just spamming one or two moves.

When I think back to it, BLU was probably one of the most fun jobs to play in a typical party. We all know there will be some form of a Blue Mage in XIV, hopefully it will be as fun as it was in FFXI. I also hope that either they bring out jobs periodically in updates or add a ton of them in the first expansion. It would suck if they only added two or three per expansion, that would make a lot of us have to wait many years for our favorites.

Unfortunately, your wish is pretty much the "how to NOT" for an MMO with strong lore behind it. They will want to stagger out the release of the fan favourites, to keep people playing, hoping to see "their" class, being NIN/SAM/BLU/RDM/DRK etc., come out next.

But yes, it was one of my favourite classes to level (though I only hit 40 with it). Most classes only had 1 or 2 viable subs for a given level range. A smart,well-played BLU could switch spells, and be effective with 3/4/5 subs at any time.
