I know most people are looking forward to 8/8 and then hopefully 8/9 for P4 starting, but how many of you are really looking forward to the character creator like I am? I've not spent much time in Beta to keep the game fresh, but when I did, my urge to log in led me to rush through character creation. I am really excited to spend a lot of time with the tool perfecting my character while not feeling the pressure to just accept something and log in. Planning to make 1 of each race/gender combo and then decide on the best.

Yea I am looking forward to this. When games have you create a character the day it comes out I never spend time creating one since I want to get in and play immediately. With this I can take my time and create MY character without the itch of wanting to skip things and play.

I am! I still can't decide on what I'll play. I'm going to spend hours and hours in the character creator until I make up my mind.

Any word yet on whether or not PS3 players get the character creator? Also, is it just character creator or will we get to lock inour names, too?

I was in ps3 beta, and yes we had character creator. I may change my hair length and my eye color.
I was going to be lala, but they are so small, that I couldn't see their armor.
In ffxi I was elvan, but the beta I was hyur (hume) and liked it.

I thought about this too... I'm guessing we can just log in on a PC to create the character, then when we play on PS3 our characters will already be in our account ready for us.

This is just a guess but makes sense to me considering the game is cross-platform.

I seriously doubt open beta starts the day after they will have the letter. I would think the following weekend likely as the start. Its already been stated by a dev that phase 4 is only one week long

I'm having a hard time suddenly finding an "official" page, but it was mentioned a lot.

The new Benchmark software that will include character creation is in development and will be released between phase 3 and phase 4.

is from: http://my.mmosite.com/2342910/blog/ritem/ffxiv_a_realm_reborn_ps4_version_hinted_wave_of_information.html

I'll edit with an official site if I can find it here soon.

I dont think P4 starting on the 8/9 is a wild idea taking into account that registration for P3 Beta codes end on July the 31st.

The data for Character creation is stored client side, not on your account, so if you do it on a PC it wont be on your PS3. It will be under your game saves on your PS3 so if you are happy with one you created in a previous beta it will still be there as long as you don't delete your saved game data.

The new benchmark, scheduled for release on August 1st, will allow you to save your character appearance data and easily import it into the release version.

From what I understand, what's being released is a benchmark program, based around the character creator. It's used to judge the performance of your machine. There are generally no benchmarks programs needed for a console, because each one is the same.

You will still be able to create your new character on PS3, even without the benchmark.

I wish we could run our character around while in character creation. That is really all my new character is dependent at this stage. I made a satisfying look for each race minus babylala. Don't get me wrong I love cats but too many to appease my underdog approach (seeker of moon gladiator).

I don't think that this will be possible. For that to function you should be able to upload your appearance data to the servers. Since the servers wont be accessible until phase 4 starts in earnest this will not be available with just the character editor.

In Beta phase 3 I noticed that the saved appearance data is local to your PC/PS3. I guess it will be the same for phase 4.

I'm sorta excited for 8/1, but its mainly because its my birthday. :P
Being able to play around with the character creation would be cool though. I have tons of ideas of what i'd like to make.

Being European, I admit I thought of 8/1 as January 8th, and thought it's the day after an important celebration day over here...I'm usually suffering from a bad hangover or something right about then...

So I couldn't think of myself as "excited" Smiley: grin

There really needs to be a universal standard set into place for that. I'm a fan of year/month/day since that's the method I use to organize stuff.

Back on topic, I would love for them to open up the character creator on the PS3 beta client, but I see why they probably won't. I'll just have to sit around and be jealous of everyone else's benchmark creations. I would get a computer that could run the game, but I refuse to until my laptop dies first. I bought it back in 2007, and it's still kicking.

Sure. I'm just going to turn on the Character Creator, and then just leave it on so that my house is filled with the Crystal Theme music while I wait for P4 to start.

Because it needs to be MUCH sooner than that!

That's kind of odd to me. What do you use instead? Your phone? A tablet?

There is! Not too many people use it though, it seems. Full formats: Exactly the components shown here must be present, with exactly this punctuation. Note that the "T" appears literally in the string, to indicate the beginning of the time element, as specified in ISO 8601.

Year:
YYYY (eg 2013)
Year and month:
YYYY-MM (eg 2013-07)
Complete date:
YYYY-MM-DD (eg 2013-07-27)
Complete date plus hours and minutes:
YYYY-MM-DDThh:mmTZD (eg 2013-07-27T19:36+01:00)
Complete date plus hours, minutes and seconds:
YYYY-MM-DDThh:mm:ssTZD (eg 2013-07-27T19:36:30+01:00)
Complete date plus hours, minutes, seconds and a decimal fraction of a
second
YYYY-MM-DDThh:mm:ss.sTZD (eg 2013-07-27T19:36:30.45+01:00)

where:

YYYY = four-digit year
MM = two-digit month (01=January, etc.)
DD = two-digit day of month (01 through 31)
hh = two digits of hour (00 through 23) (am/pm NOT allowed)
mm = two digits of minute (00 through 59)
ss = two digits of second (00 through 59)
s = one or more digits representing a decimal fraction of a second
TZD = time zone designator (Z or +hh:mm or -hh:mm)
I'm a fan of yyyy-mm-dd myself for the same reason you stated--perfect for filenames in system organization.

Absolutely stoked for August 1st, although I would rather have P4 start that day. :p
