I know this isn't FFXI-2 but does anyone feel like the ARR music kinda sucks when compared to FFXI?

I mean this is an ARR town theme... it sounds so ridiculous and over the top. Like something from a movie trailer.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_Z0W_71vE4 It doesn't sound like a town theme at all.

compared to a FFXI town theme https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iefGrRfDOPY which fits perfectly, represents the setting well, and isn't obnoxious. It sounds like a pleasant town theme.

Yeah I agree it is a bit over the top but man.. Sandoria's theme was kinda annoying to listen to for too long also lol.

While Ul'dah during the day does seem a bit over the top, Ul'dah by night is magical.

I think the day theme matches the city well. It's the city of opportunity. Where coin talks and anyone can supposedly make a name for themselves. I'd expect some level of fanfare and that's what the day theme is.

OMG YES! This! I loved the night time theme.. It is amazing.. Thank you for posting it. This is probably my favorite one

Of recent games I played, Xenoblade probably had the best soundtrack. It does the day/night thing for a lot of zones, and while it does electronic stuff, it's fairly good and not out of place since it isn't a medieval setting. There's a lot of good syncing with the environments, too.

Would you be upset if I this is my favorite track?

Seriously, I can rock out to this in my car headbanging until my neck pops.

I probably have a bit of psychological frustration applied to this song and its ties to Shulk's visions. I very much recall my first difficulty in the game being in Satori Marsh with the named lizard in the little temple. At that level you have no way to dispel his frenzy status which led to the last legs of HP being a matter of luck in his choice of moves. If he chose to spam the damaging AoE, you're probably dead. Some advocate cheesing him by kiting your party out of range since its charge time is a bit long, but sometimes your party AI is dumb and doesn't react quickly enough. Sometimes you don't get a warning about the move, either. As well, given the size of the area, you may risk repops joining the fray. I probably spent a couple hours on this fight alone just because I really wanted the Affinity Coin.

I do remember bumping into my first named mob (the crawler just outside Colony 9), though, and the music being different. My first reaction was probably a bit of a grin, a nod, and the thought that this is awesome. If I only had one real qualm with the soundtrack it'd be that it took way too long to get another general battle track and it's area restricted. The outright weakest songs for me are probably the two Bionis Interior tracks.

I feel that this doesn't get as much praise as it should. Doesn't it get you pumped?

Anyway, I think we are comparing apples to oranges here.

Here's the thing: In this thread I've seen people mention that the music is attached to memories in FFXI. Meanwhile, FFXIV, which isn't even released yet, doesn't even stand a chance to this as people haven't really had the chance to create memories with the music.

I have a feeling a lot of people on here will be singing a different tune(HAHA GET IT?) once the game is released and has some time to create such memories.

This this OR THIS!?
