Question about accountsFollow

#1 Jul 30 2013 at 1:03 PM Rating: Good
My GF has decided she wants to give FFXIV a try. Since it's too late to sign her up for P4 I'm planning on letting her use my account to try it out. My question is will we be able to log on to the same account at the same time on 2 different PCs? I'm fine letting her run around during P4, but it would suck if she got into it but lost any progress because her character is on my account.

To the best of my knowledge you can have multiple characters but not playing at the same time.

Just like FFXI you would need multiple SquareEnix accounts to play simultaneously.

Don't despair. P4 is open beta. I'm sure whoever registered up until the last few days will get in first things first, but I'm also sure that a magic button of the "Click here to join Open Beta" kind will appear on FFXIV website(s) when the time for the beta comes. Then, whoever registers will probably get their key in the mail in a few minutes.

As least that's how such things usually work, so no worries. I'm sure your GF will be able to create her favourite Lalafell in no time :)

I'm glad to see other couples are planning on playing together.

My fiance and I are thrilled to get started and both can't wait. If you want to meet up with us and have a static "Couples" group hit me up. We're planning on starting on Midsgardsmr (SP?) server with P4.

Send a PM if you want to coordinate. (I'm not posting the actual character name yet because I'm nervous someone will get it first.)

Yeah my GF was watching me play and didn't want me to kill dodos because they were "cute". I may just hand her a hammer and have her make armor Smiley: tongue Grouping up would be cool, but we're stating on Hyperion with the rest of my LS. Maybe if duty finder gets a search function we can team up, thanks for the offer Smiley: grin

My tailor would rage at that thought. Smiley: lol How else would he get the dodo feathers for his Cotton Acton and Velveteen Beret?

Just checked the ARR website. When you click on the "Recruiting Beta Testers!" link it brings up the registration closed message, but it says that registration will reopen when P4 starts. If my GF does like it I'm going to have to get a laptop, as the plan was for ME to be playing on that PC while at her place Smiley: tongue

You only need one Square-Enix account. You need two copies of the game.

No.

Either FFXI or FFXIV requries only one Square-Enix account. You only ever need *ONE* Square-Enix account (this is the account you use to access the website and your log-in information).

To play multiple accounts at the same time for FFXI you needed as many POL IDs that had their own FFXI codes registered. If you wish to dual box then you'll need two codes. If you want to tri-box then you'll need 3 codes, etc. If you have no desire to multi-box but want to play on a console you could do so at any time but you could NOT be logged into two places at the same time.

To play multiple accounts at the same time for FFXIV you need however many FFXIV codes you want registered. If you wish to dual box then you'll need two codes. If you want to tri-box then you'll need 3 codes, etc. If you have no desire to ever multi-box you can register your PS3 copy and MERGE it with your PC copy via inputting the codes there -- this will allow you to play the PC the PS3 version but not at the same time. If you wish to play a PC version AND a PS3 at the same time then you need to create a new FFXIV account and link your PS3 code to that.

Absolutely nothing's changed on the multi-box front (except for the PS3 + PC debacle because PS3 requires a code to be registered to your Sony ID): if you want to multi-box you need two copies of the game (or two codes).

EDIT: Further explained because the terminology they use throws people off. They state it plainly but people get thrown off by "Square-Enix account" and assume they only need one. It's gotten so many people confused that they've told people "Yeah you can multiple box with multiple characters no prob since you only need the one Square-Enix account" and there's a LOT of poor people like above that believe come launch they can play with their SO just buy buying one copy of the game.

Unfortunately, it's the answer you don't want. But P4 is only like a week anyway...

I'll be playing with my GF and totally forgot to sign her up for P4. OOPSIES!

So in my situation we should be good. I have a copy pre ordered and get a free DL as a 1.0 player so we'll have two codes and be able to play at the same time.

"All players who purchased Version 1.0 will be able to download the client for FFXIV: ARR free of charge. For more information on the various changes in FFXIV: ARR, please proceed to the official website."

Do you have two early access codes? 1.0 accounts do not have early access unless they were Legacy accounts. If your account isn't legacy, your GF will be playing before you can.

I'm going to have to get another pre order, as the original plan was to add the early access code to my account.

I don't know how ethical this is, but I've seen people saying you can preorder on Amazon, they email you a preorder code within minutes, and you can cancel the preorder and never get charged..since they don't charge until the 27th.

I wouldn't go that route but thanks. I'm going to wait to see if she actually likes playing before ordering, no sense ordering if I don't need it.

Remember:

- Square Enix Account. The account you setup payment options and manage your game service accounts. You should have only one SE account

- Game Service Account. An account for each registered game. You can have multiple service accounts under one SE account. Subsitute Game with FFXI or FFXIV. Each registered game represents one bought game license. It is not possible to buy one license and play on multiple machines (be it PC or PS3) with one service account at the same time!

- PS3 and/or PC. Unfortunately if you want to play one character both on your PC and your PS3, you need to buy both versions and merge the licenses under one FFXIV service account. There is no other way.

- Square Enix Member Account. While you can register for this and link this with your SE account. It has no function other than to show you're a fan of SE and you can show off which ganes you've bought.

Thanks!

I actually was Hairspray on FFXI, my last character when I restarted to play with my fiance at the very end in 2010... he was named for the hairstyle... Elvaan with the hair sticking up in the front.

Anyways, I had imagined that it probably took a whole can of hairspray to make it do that. So that became his name.

I then used "Captain Hairspray" in DCUO... everyone liked the name, including me...

But now I've got something I'm going to do that is completely different... they force us to use 2 names now in FFXIV:ARR... so hairspray would almost have to be captain hairspray, which is a DCUO character, so I'm switching it up.

I'll add the new name to my sig as soon as we are able to create our characters... I can't wait!
