Any Enix kids here?Follow

#1 Jul 31 2013 at 8:17 PM Rating: Good
As a kid my first RPG was Dragon Warrior. I remember being blown away by it and I was instantly hooked. I later went on to beat the first 3 Dragon Warriors before I ever played my first FF title, FFIII (NA). In fact the only FF titles I've ever played were 3, 7, 8, and 11. Don't get me wrong, I love FF but it was an Enix title that started me down this road, and 20 years later it makes me smile to see the Dragon Quest guy in charge! (Yoshi P)

I'm having a hard time remembering but I'm pretty sure DW was my first also. It was that or FF I.

FF I was my first RPG and that led me to playing DW. When Square and Enix merged I thought it was heaven on earth.

Indeed Dragon Warrior was the game that started my gaming trend. I played other games before but never got hooked into a story until DW.

I remember resubscribing to Nintendo Power just for the Dragon Warrior game. It was a great Enix title although Actraiser remains my favorite.

Ahh... I'm feeling nostalgic.

The Dragonlord must be defeated. Take now whatever thou may find in these Treasure Chests to aid thee in thy quest. Then speak with the guards, for they have much knowledge that may aid thee. I'm a square kid. Crono Trigger was the first RPG I completed, then FF3(6).

If watching others play Dragon Warrior or Final Fantasy before finally being able to 10+ years later counts, then yes.

Thanks for posting this. It's fun to reminisce!

I'm also very happy that Yoshi is in charge for many reasons... Smiley: smile

Yep, Dragon Warrior was my first also, and I played 1-3 (all great games). I've always loved the DW/DQ games. My first FF game was FF2 (US). I've played pretty much all of them since other than XIII-2. Aside from just FF, I also love the Chrono games... and really wish they would stop p*ssy-footing around and just make Chrono Break (or whatever they want to call it) already!

This, I'm pretty sure I got it with a subscription to Nintendo Power.

The first time I saw my friend FF1 on a TV screen I knew I would be playing it as soon as possible. I'll never forget playing through FF 1, 2 and 3.

I can't help feeling that there is a hole in my childhood where FF 4, 5 and 6 should have been.

Find a ball of light in the darkness.

Sounds easy enough!

Mine was Dragon Warrior, then Final Fantasy I, then Ultima IV. If you can count Legend of Zelda, then that is technically first. But as far as ENIX games go, they were really good back in the days of SNES. To this day, the original Actraiser is one of the best games I have played, and Illusion of Gaea and 7th Saga were really good games as well. They put a twist on the genre with the simulation aspects that simply hasn't been seen again in on a console in an enjoyable form.

I'm having a hard time remembering whether I played Chrono Trigger or Secret of Mana first. My god how I loved my SNES.

My first RPG was Dragon Warrior. I played Final Fantasy at some point after that, and then Dragon Warrior 2 after Final Fantasy. I was more impressed with Final Fantasy than I was with Dragon Warrior 2. And then I never found the time to play any other follow ups to the Dragon Warrior series, but I did make the time to play installments of Final Fantasy.

Well, technically you were an Enix baby then :p I'm almostt 100% positive Chrono Trigger was a collaborative effort between Sakaguchi (producer, creator of Final Fantasy), Horii (creator of Dragon Quest/Warrrior), and Toriyama (Dragonball artist). I think they referred to it as the Dream Team but it's been years and years for me so I can't remember -- that could have been for a different game.

Dragon Warrior wasn't only my first RPG it was also the very first NES game I've ever played. I don't think I touched Mario until months later (probably closer to a year) just because I loved DW and ended up going through it several times.

As far as Enix games? 7th Saga (NA version's so much harder it isn't funny), Actraiser (the score in the game alone made it worth playing), E.V.O., the Soul Blazer "trilogy", and of course the entire DQ/DW series.

Yeah, SNES really was the golden era of RPGs in terms of choices. Just looking at sheer release numbers alone between NES, SNES, PSX, PS2, and PS3 era (not necessarily just the console themselves) and there was more during that time than any others.

My first RPG was Zelda then Dragon warrior then the first Final Fantasy. Other early rpgs I played included Legend of Shaharazad (I loved that game) and Dungeon quest.

I'm not sure if I would count Zelda as an RPG. While Link's HP grew and you gained new tools and equipment over the course of the game, I don't know if that's enough to call it an RPG. After all, even a game like Metal Gear Solid had that, and I don't think anyone would call MGS an RPG.

I've seen some interesting definitions of what an RPG is from various people. Going with some of these definitions NBA 2k13 My Player mode is a sports RPG. Create your player, earn skill points, increase attributes, purchase gear with stat boosts, etc.Smiley: grin

I'm pretty sure I played DW1 at a friends before FF1 but I finished FF1 first. Congrats to beating DW3, that seemed like a long game. I really enjoyed DQ8 for PS2, but I have to say my favorite Enix title was Soul Blazer for SNES, awesome Zelda style gameplay with more RPG style levelling and items.

Never thought about this question but I'd have to say I'm an Enix kid. ActRaiser was mentioned already, great game. But I cut my SNES teeth on Illusion of Gaia. Man, did I love that game and its out-of-this-world soundtrack.
