This is one time when I wished they had used the models from FFXI .I liked the design for the pixies , sprites in FFXI more than these. Can't wait to try this class/job to see how it plays though. The wait is killing me.

I showed these to my fiancé earlier and it just reinforced that she really wants to be a scholar!

And reinforced why I will probably never be one!

My three year old daughter is very, very excited about this :-)

As a 38 year old man, me - not so much.

I am however now looking forward to PvP so I can go on a fairy slaughtering murderous rampage. And previously I had not interest in PvP at all. SE are geneii.

I'm all for new ideas and innovation in FFXIV, but I really don't like the idea of the fairy pet for Scholar. In previous FF games Scholar has never been dependent on a pet to do its job, and of all things a fairy. It's about like giving a dragoon a sword and shield (or a dark knight a polearm, thanks for ******** that up Dissidia). The job doesn't even have Scan or know the two schools of magic. It's one thing to re-imagine a job class that's been in the FF lore since 11 iterations ago, it's another to have some other class just dress up as Scholar and call it that.

Well hey, I don't have to play it and it will most likely fall to the wayside in favor of white mages anyway, so this is all I have to say about it.

Or, more accurately, giving a dragoon a wyvern? Smiley: sly

(FFXI is the only game to have ever done it, so it's the same basic premise)

I've never been a big pet class fan with only 2 exceptions I can think of. I enjoyed summoner and dragoon in ffxi. All the other mmo's I tried they didn't do it for me. As such I'll definitely give it a try, but I plan to main as a tank and then a black mage before I branch out.

Yea, I thought about that. But then I remembered that Dragoons could still use Jump abilities. So even though they gave them a wyvern they still maintained some of the classic job's identity beyond what they wore.

Now, if they nerfed the melee damage from the FFXI dragoon and made it so that the wyvern could only heal that would be more like what is going on here. It feels like they wanted to shoehorn in a schoolgirl outfit and hey they needed another healing class...so two birds with one stone. Just my opinion of course.
#10REDACTED, Posted: Aug 05 2013 at 6:45 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) They look horrible (clearly going for the "lolicon" audience) but more effort was clearly put into them than Titan, for example.
#11REDACTED, Posted: Aug 05 2013 at 6:47 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) You are so right about Scholar. Yoshi-P is just ripping off classes from other games and re-naming them for ARR.

Scholar- TERA Mystic
Summoner- AION Spiritmaster

Bard- someone was smoking something.

And here we go again...and those two games were original creations right?!?!...What do you want him to add, garbage man?

As far as giving them a scan-like ability, there wouldn't be much use to it in this game, as they've done away with elemental weaknesses. In FFXI, Libra told you the enemy's enmity level. It was useless.

They didn't know both schools of magic in every single FF game they were in either, and actually, their buff/debuff abilities are very much in line with previous iterations of the job.

In short, gurl you trippin' over nothin.

I understand if maybe you were initially upset that the game didn't turn out how you wanted it to turn out, but it seems you still haven't gotten over it. Why do you hang around this forum if you're not even going to play this game? If by some chance you're actually going to pay to play something you clearly have so much disdain for, then you're either here trolling or you've got some strange sadomasochistic issues.

Miss who?

The "ignore" feature; it's a real thing.

Final Fantasy is continuing the tradition that Scholar has never been the same in any main series game it's been in.

I like having Killua around. I have to make use of the red arrow somewhere, you know.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to be rude. He seems like a perfectly nice, intelligent guy. I'm just not sure why someone would willingly subject themselves to something they really didn't enjoy.

Either way, I think the fairies look like a cheap version of Tinkerbell, but I'm still going to play SCH first. So, maybe I'm the same.

Which games are you talking about? Scholar doesn't show up in a whole lot of FF titles, the only ones I know a scholar uses both white and black magic.

I totally agree with you about Scan though. So much info is given to the player already and without elemental weaknesses theres no point at all. When the job was hinted at and before I knew it was a healer class I wondered if they'd keep the ability.

Actually it just occured to me that THM and CNJ are required classes to unlock the job. Maybe we'll be able to use spells from both. That would make me happy.
#25 Aug 06 2013 at 10:04 AM Rating: Good
Scholars can cross class CNJ and THM abilities, yes.

The last thing I ever expected when I started this post, where for people to fight/argue over Fairies.

I would think, even the mightiest of Roegadyn's, hardened by their trial and tribulations, would soften their hearts at the sight of these Fairies.

You need to BELIEVE!

P.S. Do you think Tinkerbell and the Canada Dry Fairy are related?
