Leveling speed?Follow

I played FF XIV 1.0 when it first came out as a casual player and invested 20-30 hours to get my THM to level 15 and a few crafting levels in Alchemy and mining.

Looking forward to 2.0 coming out, I hate to lose my progress when I could keep it, but it sounds like there may be a disadvantage for me to be on a legacy server as opposed to starting over. My concern is taking another 20+ hours to get back up to level 15, unless the speed of leveling, at least for the lower levels, has been increased in 2.0

I hope to have 1 week that I'll take vacation to invest a lot of time and then I'll go back to more casual and want to get the most out of it.

I got to level 18 before beta phase 3 ended in maybe a total of 5 or 6 gaming sessions. It's not hard at all. Most experience came from questing. I solod until around LV8, then I just started doing a boatload of quests and main storyline quests. Loved every minute of it and cannot wait to play 14.

Yes it is faster, but also keep in mind this is all based on our Beta experience. The curve may be different at release, though I don't think it will be drastically so, if at all.

Those of us who joined the Beta, knew we were investing our time and energy playing the game with the understanding the data would be erased and we would have to start over.

Ouch, it hurt because of what we put in to it. However, having played the game before, the second time around will be much faster. For me especially, since I spent a LOT of time being lost and going around in circles.

If you are going to be a casual player, I'd say keep your old character in Legacy and enjoy the benefits of what you have accomplshed already and go on to explore new quests etc. w/o having to reinvest the time you already spent.

As someone who will have a LOT of time to play the game, I've accepted that I'm starting over from scratch. I pretty much figure there will be slow times on the server and I can craft during those times, and then enjoy gaming with others when the server gets busy.

Whichever you decide, enjoy, enjoy!

I'm going to resurrect my 1.0 character even though I had only played 1.0 for a month. I know there has been a lot of discussion regarding whether or not to start on a fresh server, but as a casual player I feel that retaining my existing progress outweighs all the proposed cons of starting on a legacy server. If I had a lot of time to devote to the game, I absolutely would re-roll on a fresh server; however, I don't so I'm going to keep my existing levels, meager as they are.

Ugh, the indecisiveness. I'm trying to talk some of my friends who started 1.0 with me to start up again, at least for the free 2 weeks and not sure what they would be doing. Other than that, I have no particular allegiance to my server.

Did I read right that 50-60 hours should get you to end game content?

I much prefer leveling content to end-game content... but I tend to be odd.

I leveled GLA and CNJ to 35 and PUG to 25ish during phase 3. If you have 8+ hours a day to play every day you could probably hit 50 in a solid week or less, especially with the main story quests.

I also enjoy the process of leveling. FFXI was great fun for a while, especially in 6 man parties. There was a point in WoW where I derived more enjoyment from leveling alts then doing end-game content. But I suppose spending a month on Sindragosa will do that to you... We had a couple people that just couldn't get mechanics and then 1-3 "floater" spots that we couldn't keep the same person in every week.. being a healer sucks when everyone keeps gettign 1 shotted by fight mechanics x.x

If you don't have much time to play and you're not sure about staying on your server, you may want to look into the ZAM community here that will be on Ultros. I'm sure you could find a few people to group with for leveling or dungeon content. There's a thread going on about it. Like others have said, it didn't take long to get to 35 during beta. I only played for two weekends and the final part where we had a few more days to play and I got CNJ to 34, and a few crafting levels at around 20.

Leveling is much faster, but take your time because the end-game will still be there when you arrive. A lot of MMO players race to the end of content, and I was one of those people for a very long time, but my last couple MMOs I slowed down a little and took in the scenery, completed quests, explored, completed hunting logs, and found that the journey was more fun than the destination.

I played XI significantly and loved the leveling, but hardly did anything with the actual story and when I did, I had forgotten what was going on.

Since the story is what I love about the FF series, I was going to try to get through it this time. Not necessarily in 1 month, but I do want to be making progress rather than idle leveling this time around.

I'm the same way. I'd rather level and experience new content and areas than run the same dungeon over and over and over.

In beta I leveled kinda fast, but I only got to 20. I'm taking my time in release. I thought the pacing was fine. However leveling your second classes to your main is a bit grindy. So I think it balances out a bit.

Hmm in most cases I would suggest keeping the legacy character, but maybe not in this case. Since you are only level 15 anyways, you might as well start fresh on a server where you can have a better play at the econemy. With a lvl 15 legacy character you are basically starting from scratch and if I had to start from scratch I'd choose a server where everyone has a clean slate. You won't worry about having to pay inflated prices on the legacy servers.
