Our stories are very similar... I remember being a member of Allakazam back in 2004-2008, I also have no idea when they shortened it but thank God they did! I can't spell Allakazam properly!

I'm actually getting married (again)... she's awesome!!! She'll actually be playing with us on the Ultros server, so you will all get to meet her (virtually) anyways.

The only parts that I was disappointed in was finding that Bahamut's Labyrinth is only an 8 man raid(although I guess there is still hope there will be a 24 man version) and that Crystal Tower is being nerfed to accommodate PUG's via Duty Finder. After all the talk about how endgame is very important to them and they are making content that will take a long time and be very challenging, some of that felt a little contradictory. But, its still wait and see I guess.

People burning down buildings cause Open Beta and Early Access aren't soon enough or long enough to their liking are just behaving like children. Game will be out for real in less than 3 weeks. Just about all pre-launch testing that SE feels needs to be done is done. Losing your mind and spreading hate and discontent because you can't play sooner and longer before that 3 weeks is just immature. Stop acting like you getting to play an extra 3-4 days early or longer is going to be the difference.

Sorry, Shadow. But I can't agree with you this time.

What's worse, is that the administration cannot take such criticism in stride, and even have a ToU clause against it. It's a self depreciating process that has no solution other than to wait it out and hope the worst of the bunch leave when they can't hang out in the forums for free - and it's then where I start to fear for communities such as Zam, FFXIV-Roleplayers, and the like as that's where people will go next to expunge their vitriol.

This does concern me if you're right. I guess I don't understand the appeal of trolling forums for games I won't be playing. I waste too much time as it is on the ZAM forums when I have more pressing concerns in real life. So how about if I amend my response to just try to be civil about warning others. The satire and finger pointing isn't necessary to warns others.

Almost all of us don't understand the trolling, which is why we congregate here. The closest I get to understanding is Micheal Caines' line from Batman Begins: "Some men just want to watch the world burn." Maturity is the basis of it, I think. Like you said, you have more pressing RL concerns so wasting your time poking at something that has nothing to do with you isn't an option. However, for people that don't have those concerns wreaking havoc may seem like a good time. Hopefully, what Hyrist suggested never comes to be, but if it does Zammers will solider on like they always have Smiley: grin

Prior to the internet, anonymously expressing one's opinion was simply unavailable. You had to personally live up to your comments in real life, and were ridiculed on the street if you said things that the populace disagreed with. The downside: stifled innovation, the upside: less stupid trolls. Smiley: schooled

Except now even that upside is being suffocated away by the screaming from the polarized opinions in gaming. So as far as communication goes, the negatives are continually outweighing the positives.

It's disheartening and despicable. Some of the stuff being taken for grated as just 'trolling' or someones valid opinion would start an outright fistfight (or worse) if spoken in person in older days.

Now, it's everywhere. Internet, television, I've just one of the most miserable people I've ever met in our waiting room at work earlier today and I have to bite my lip to the point of near bleeding not to want to explode on the woman.

This sense of hyper-entitlement we've adapted as a society is just wrong. And dangerous too. A culture like this is primed to implode and I'm genuinely concerned at the long term implications of it.

Just read the comments section of any given CNN article. Even the posts on weather.com are badmouthing the weathermen for naming winter storms Smiley: oyvey The trolling toned down on ESPN once people had to log into their facebook accounts to post, but then they just made fake facebook accounts...

Go to San Antonio Texas. I used to live there. It is rampant.

Cool, I'm looking to upgrade my PC eventually so my wife can play. She is an EQ veteran from way back when. Usually she is really busy working on art projects so she puts less into video games nowadays but I will still keep trying to upgrade the PC for her sake.

Political talk show hosts make their living and are popular when they are loud and obnoxious with their opinions. Same with sports talk show hosts. We literally have shows where the point is to insult each other and you get scored based on that. Kids on the internet are proud to be labeled trolls and we do stuff like, "He's a pretty good troll, 8/10" etc. We as a culture are fascinated by rude, disrespectful behaviour.

If I make a thread with the title, "Wish some parts of the game were better" it would get maybe 10 replies and get buried. I make a thread titled, "This game is terrible, F2P in 3 months!!!" the thread will keep going for the next 2 months. To be heard, specially on the internet nowadays, you have to be loud, obnoxious and filled with hyperbole it seems. And that is just too bad.

Blame it on MTV (post Music) and Jersey Shore...

The name change occured initially in some places about a year after Jeff Moyer sold the site, and was fully implemented about another year after that, though you can still type the old URL's and get to things if you're used to it. after 12 years you get used to typeing it one way.

This forum seems like a haven compared to the beta forum.

There is one good thread though. -

To answer the op's question, I'm pretty much excited about everything in this game. I'm not a completely unreasonable man, so a lot of the things that people are going to war for seem ridiculous to me. Like unicorns. Just let some people have unicorns, so what. I do not mind in the least.

I think we're past WoW O-Board level. I think the beta forums have reached a Diablo 3 O-Board level of terribleness. That's quite an achievement!

Feh, too many bad memories of arguing with people who believed flipping was good for the economy there...

It's more civil here without a doubt.

Complaints don't bother me in and of themselves. If every thread on the beta forums were simply expressing a desire for more free time or concern that end game isn't ready enough, I wouldn't bat an eye. It's not even that people disagree with those viewpoints that bothers me. A spirited debate is fine and sometimes makes you think of things you hadn't thought of before.

It's that those disagreements get taken to a whole other level of desperate rage. Those boards are smothered in it. It isn't enough to say you felt misled, it's that SE HAS LIED TO YOU!!! 11!!122@3 and anyone who doesn't pick up a torch and/or pitchfork is the enemy. It isn't enough to say you like the game, it's that those who want changes are breaking your immersion. It isn't enough to say you wish things were better, it's that those who are satisfied are getting in the way of the gameplay you want to see added.

Sure, we have trolls and whiteknights around here and the occasional silly fight, but it's nothing compared to how insane I've seen it get on SE's official forums.

All I'm saying we shouldn't be comparing other forums to Zam, that's it. Frankly, I was disappointed with Zam back at FFXIV's 1.0 launch and the fallout after it. You had people with valid arguments being sub-defaulted because fanboys defended the game despite the disaster. There was absolutely zero criticism by the "good posters" and it was sort of a love fest and words I won't use on this forum.

I'd probably agree with you about the other forums if you put a gun to my head, but again, this isn't about that. If the ZAM community is so much better than the Beta, why do our people need to go out of their way to insult them over here? I think you'll agree despite your feelings that you're right about the actual state of that said forum, it doesn't excuse our community for sinking to the same lows.

This thread disagrees. :)

Yes, I'm bored. It's funny seeing much of the same posters posting, including yourself.

Here during 1.0 there were a lot of white knight threads, but there were also quite a bit of negative threads as well.

Once I snapped into reality, and learned that 1.0 was a disaster, I made my criticisms known.

Once I found that the game wasn't for me, I went over to FFXI and took a break from =152 and let things cool off.

...And I don't want to brag, but I think that's where the good posters went. We left; we didn't stay and try to "save" a sinking ship.

Wint is right though, WoW's forums were much the same at launch as are most developer hosted sites for some reason.

Yes, but WoW is still the greatest MMO ever because it was the first MMO. Kappa
