I'm interested in doing some YouTube videos when this game comes out and they allow people to post videos, but I have a question regarding that.
What do I need to start recording? Is it called Fraps? I know some people use Fraps, but is that the program most people use to record in-game footage? Thanks.

Fraps is pretty garbage compared to what all is out there, especially free sowftware. Fraps tends to be a resource hog and it's not free. MSI Afterburner has it's own video recording software, plus it's a great GPU fan controller/overclocking tool. The big one that a lot of people use for streaming is Open Broadcaster Software. It lets you do all of those nifty things that streamers do in your videos, such as window in window and the like. Neither one of these options costs a dime nor consume nearly as much of your resources as Fraps.
You might also want a video editing software as well. Windows movie maker isn't amazing, but it's free and more than enough to fart around with while figuring out whether or not you want to make videos all the time. You better have a more than decent computer otherwise editing takes forever. Not to mention how long it takes to upload video if you don't have a near top of the line internet connection. For about 90 minutes of footage it took me 18+ hours to upload it all on a 1.5mbps download / .5 mbps upload connection.

Tried the open broadcaster software but how do I video the game I'm playing?

with most of the recording software you have to record in windowed mode. in OBS you can set it to only record what's inside a window or even a particular area within a window. That's how I can record my webcam and a game at the same time. I don't even have to start recording on my webcam software, just have to have it open and on.

I have used fraps for many many years. You pay for it once and you have it forever. I have never ran into a GPU issues but I have not tried the free ones out there. I use fraps than use Sony Vegas to after effects and done .
Fraps is largely used but there are others. I also use bandicam. I believe it is way lighter than Fraps. I also use Camtasia but it is a bit heavy I usually use that when I want to capture my voice as well or/and I also want to video my self as well when recording the game. But yea I would tell you to give bandicam a try it's easy and light enough.

I think fraps is what you wanna go with. I don't know the link but I know my fiancé has made countless youtube videos from games using it and it always worked well.

yea I bought it prolly 10 years ago ( man im getting old). Its reliable and easy I even use it to take pictures because its easy to find and such.
I don't do much recording of games, but I did mess around with the MSI Afterburner video capture some. Which was convenient for me because I was already using it for its other purposes. That's a nice bonus if you're gonna have it running anyway. Though if I was gonna get into lots of serious recording I'd probably look into some of the other programs out there as well.

Google searching can be overwhelming if you aren't too familiar with how to sift through the enormity of results. Most people ask these questions on forums so that they can get a quick concise opinion from a smaller group of people they trust. If I was mistaken, then I apologize.

Basically I was.
Most probably didn't, but I actually read through and watched the first few results of the link I posted. There are options for which software to use based on what type of recording you're doing(with or without webcam, streaming, PC or console ect.) and specific instructions on how to upload to youtube. Even I learned something.
Was it easy to find? Very. Ironically, I get rated down for providing relevant information. Perhaps I should have just done the simple google search, copy pasta'd a relevant response and acted like I knew all along as most people do.

Sorry, what I meant to say was I knew about fraps, I even used the free version of it for a day. I wanted to know if that is still the most used recording software for gamers still or if there was a better software for recording for YouTube. The thread's purpose was to ask what people of this forum use for recording in particular. I don't believe in asking Google and trusting the first result, I wanted people's opinions and discussion.

No apology necessary. Fraps is still popular, but mostly because it's been around for so long. There are better options with more features for the same price or lower(some of them free), but it depends on what else you would use the software for, what features you like and how well your hardware can handle recording.

I run 12,000~ score on maximum settings on the benchmark, so my setup is pretty good. I could easily handle recording while running on maximum.
All I am looking for are recording software and a microphone for voice. I've chatted with a few YouTube users and got their opinions. I believe I am set.
