hello I was just curious on how they changed this class? I was a main monk in FF11 and played with pugilist a bit on 1.0 and was ok with it, but now after looking at new skills changed i was wondering the following:

1)what the hell did they do to this class? after watching videos and trying it out for a short while in beta 2 it felt like a dancer class from FF11 instead of monk.

2)what are the stances and how do you switch between them? also how does elemental imbued skills effect character? after reading new skills it seems like a very confusing class now.

P.S-
does anyone know website that shows level 1 and max level stats between races? i loved the galka aka "whatever the hell they changed it to this game ( which never bothered or cared to remember i always call em galka lol)

i wanted to remake my guy from FF11 also was wondering if any websites list face/types by the races difference tribes.

also on the side note is summoner pretty much similar to AION spiritmaster? and do they only summon "baby mode primes" ? I miss FF11 gigantic summons.

FFXI is still available to play if you want gigantic summons and your old MNk back. The MNK in ARR have not been fully tested so it's hard to say for sure how they are going to perform. In 1.0 I really enjoyed playing the job and if geared right you could do some very high damage (AV Morbol boss battle springs to mind). The new stances confused me when I was trying things out in Beta but they started making sense after a while, one stance leads on to another by using a weaponskill and you need to think about your positioning etc. I don't see the resemblance to DNC much as I see it's more of a toe to toe DD class and doesn't have jigs etc. I'm sure someone who tested more than I can tell you if the elemental fists have a similar effect as in 1.0 or not - not sure about this as elemental resistance seems to be what's happening to the elemental stats now. To remake your guy from FFXI (I did the same in 1.0 and ARR) you need to download the character benchmark program that allows you to create your character before release. Summoner is not out yet so nobody really knows although Yoshi has shown quite a bit of it in the Live letter recently - never played Aion so wouldn't know about spiritmasters. The baby primes are egi's.

Monks have stances. Certain weapon skills give you different stances, and in return some can only be used while in a particular stance. The upside, is you can chain an almost endless amount of weapon skills. The stances also grant you special buffs, so you should probably think about what you're doing instead of spamming. On of my favorites is greased lightning, which increases my attack speed. As of phase 3, the Monk job had a high dps output.

Fist of fire adds power, fist of wind adds movement speed, and fist of earth adds defense. Many martial arts can seem like a dance, however I hardly see the relation to the dance job from FFXI. I suppose that you'll have to deal with that on your own.

thank you very much for the clarification it was weird and confusing I appreciate information.

another question if you don't mind:
- how long do you maintain stance after using the weapon skill that gives stance? and is there a default stance when you start combat?
- also what happened to the "sneak attack" or do extra damage from behind enemy/or 100% critical strike from behind is it still in there i think i remember pugilist having that.

P.S-
thank you so much for recommending character benchmark program I normally take a long *** time to customize my character and this will help me play around with it. ( im a bit disappointing with the galka faces tho but i still prefer the giant lol.)
-if i reformat my pc where does it store the information for the characters? I can not seem to find the saved file i can transfer around.

some of your stances are enhanced as you lvl... like the greased lightning one the above poster mentioned will stack after your a certain lvl and the job trait has been obtained... most however will only last 20-30 secons tho from my experieces in beta 3...

you still do extra dmg with some attacks being behind or to the flanks of the mob depending on the skill... allthough its not 100% crit at all

as for your files on the computer from the benchmark im not sure on that im playing on PS3... Hope i was of some help

Greased Lightning stacks too. I believe I've read that the max is 3 at a time... so you're really moving :)

The attacks themselves will say which ones benefit from positioning, or which ones give buffs. Ideally you'll weave the combos to benefit form the buffs and the added damage. The stance buffs last a short period, maybe 10 seconds if I remember? But more than enough to keep any chain going even if you have to move or chase a mob a little.

For instance, you have skills A, B, C, & D. B can only be used after A, C & D can only be used after B, but you have to choose only one of them. So you might do A>B>C> A>B>D> A>B>C> etc

To answer your question on stat differences between races, there is no greater difference at cap as there is at level 1. If one race has 5 str at 1 and another has 7 the racial difference will always be 2 points, even at 50.

does anyone have any clue where the character benchmark save file gets stored at? I can not seem to find it at all.

C:\Users\<UserName>\Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn (Benchmark) on Windows 8 at least.

It might just be me but I found the Pugilist play style somewhat similar to Rogue in WoW. Maybe it was the DoT that they got at 15 (I know pretty much every class has a DoT now) or how they gain a stacking buff after completing their combos. I'm not sure how it is compared to that other Physical DDs but Pugilist really seemed like a Damage over Time class in general. I found that during trash mob fights it was quite hard to maximize DPS. Even in some boss fights it became difficult because of movement or adds spawning. I think that in the end MNK will be a very strong DD with the ability to tank weaker adds during Raid Fights. With the defensive and movement speed stances and evasion moves it seems like they could either gather and burst down adds or kite them quite effectively. I suppose the other DDs could do this as well, but MNK would definitely look cooler doing it. WTB Counterstance.

I think you're on the money regarding melee DD. MNK is constant dmg or effective DoT (much like MNK in XI). DRG is about synchronising cd's, and dealing massive burst dmg. I think someone did run some tests in P3, and on a straight-up tank&spank, once MNK hit 3 x GL it was a clear winner. But as you say, excess movement, or even worse losing GL will ruin MNK dps. DRG will do lower numbers, but hit harder when needed (e.g. fetters in Ifrit).

Makes a balanced, mixed group all the more important. Keep your MNK & SMN on the boss, and when adds pop up send the DRG with cd's up and BLM with Astral Fire up to burn with extreme prejudice.

It will, that's what the Character Creator is for, so you can jump right in to Phase 4 and launch Smiley: nod

I don't have the link to hand, but there are threads about here that have it. Note that it is the launcher only, not the client. It is only about 100mb. Then (afaik), the launcher will allow you to d/l the client on the 15th.

Here is some helpful info for the starting stats of the races.
