I am reading that the PC download will be 6GB. I will buy the disc on release day, but am I correct in assuming that I will have to download all 6GB to play PS3 early access? I downloaded ~2800 MB for Dynasty Tactics 2 the other day and it took me nearly 30 minutes (on my cable modem). Just wondering if I need to start my download and then immediately go on a weekend vacation or something... Smiley: smile

Well at that rate it'll take an hour and 45 minutes.

I downloaded the 6 gb .took about twenty minutes to download then another 10 to install. It's needed for the early access.i believe once u get the disc it will install the rest of the 20gb needed from the installation files. I purchased mine from the pen store so I would download the extra 14 gigs straight to my hard drive during the early release phase. I'm still unsure though if the early codes for the ps3 only include the early access portion or everything else

You can download the game now if you buy it through PSN and beat the rush. You just won't be able to play until the 24th, anyway. It takes about 45 minutes with a 20 Mbps connection.

All I can say: HARDWIRE your Ethernet.

Wireless on the PS3 is terrible and will take 4 days.

^^ This is so true. Do yourself a favor and use a cat-5e or cat-6 cable to connect your PS3 to the router/switch. Wireless has latency which further slows down the transmissions of packets that can be lost during download. I think wireless is fine for FFXIV for normal gameplay though. .

It's not too bad once you open up your router ports. I ended up forwarding seven single ports and two ranges. Only a few of them are needed for PSN and FFXIV, but I wasn't in the mood for looking up what each port did. Hardwiring is still your best bet, though.

It may just be related to the fat ps3's but I know that downloading DCU:O took like a week. Then I plugged in the ethernet and it was like 2 hours..

Normal gameplay should be fine though, just patches and client downloading.

I downloaded everything for P3 over wireless on my PS3. It took about 90 minutes

I have a fat one. When I originally tried downloading the full beta P3 client, it was going to take me a good 12+ hours. Opening up the ports dropped it to around three. It still isn't as fast as it would be hardwired, but it's reasonable enough.

The PS3 is capped at 54mb per second wirelessly due to the 802.11g spectrum. A cat-5e ethernet cord is 100mb. The third variable is the how much data is able to be downloaded and controlled by your ISP. The patch server should have priority for data so that's good news, but again, they might cap out the speed too opting for many transfer at one time without nerfing the quality of download speeds.

It's always best to use Cat 5e or higher wiring. Wireless has too many problems to be reliable. The 802.11g network uses 2.4ghz frequencies which almost every electronic devices uses including our cell phones and bluetooth. There is interference from this and every little bit hurts.

Edit:

If anyone is interested, I have a comparison for the PS3 vs PS4.

PS3
802.11g 54mbps
Ethernet 100mb

PS4
802.11n 150mbps(possible)
Ethernet 10gb or 1GB(roughly)
