Hello,I won't waste any time..
Is it still worth it to start this game? or will it be to hard to find groups and people to play with, compared to those who are already at higher level content?

I used to play ff11 a lot, loved it to death. Even though it was a grind. But loved the content, the bosses, the team based fighting.
Would love everyone's opinion! also any recommendations for good newb friendly servers? linkshells/free companies?

if there is a better place to ask this, or been asked before.. please accept my apologies.

Thank you all!

There are always people doing all levels of content. Finding groups is not an issue.

I liked it too, but please be aware that FFXIV is a very different kind of game than FFXI. As for newbie friendly servers I honestly don't know. I'd probably go with one of the higher-population servers like Gilgamesh or Hyperion (though creating a character on one of those might require some alarm clock-ing) just for better odds. There are newbie-friendly FCs and linkshells on basically all servers though and the novice network is there to help you as well.

As a recent returnee after being away for a year+, I'd have to say I was shocked and surprised that I was still seeing green newbies in Sastasha (the very first grouped content in the game at Lv16 not counting Guildleves), the Original MSQ Raids (The very first ones) still have fast queue times, and even some fights after them like Leviathan, Moggle Mog, etc are all quick Q times as well.

I don't know about DPS queues, but Qing up for anything as a tank will get you a group within 5 minutes, and about the same as healer. In fact, even though the Duty Finder will claim Tanks are in need, I find more often than not, healers actually get faster queues, not sure why that is.

If you're worried about getting groups to get stuff done fast enough, I highly recommend you give tanking or healing a try. Healing will seem awful and boring at first, but once you get to about Haukke Manor, it starts picking up and you won't be so bored.

Aurum Vale will be your big Test. If you successfully heal that, you can probably heal nearly anything afterwards with a little practice.

Not everybody likes tanking or healing, though, so if you try it and you find it isn't for you, don't force yourself to do it. It's just that DPS will have longer queue times, and there's nothing I dislike more than waiting on the duty finder, lol. So I learned to tank and heal, right from the start.

EDIT:

I would also like to mention that most Grouped Content is done through something we call the Duty Finder. Basically, you tell it what you need to do (Dungeon, Raid, etc) while you have the job selected that you want to play as and it will place you in a queue which is shared with other servers.

When it is your turn to go, a popup window will pop and you click Ready when you're ready to go (you get like 45 seconds to respond) and when everybody in the group clicks Ready, you are instantly teleported to your Duty (you can't queue up for a dungeon you haven't been to the entrance of yet at least once, though. Dungeons and other Duties are unlocked by quests which almost always end at the entry point).

Once you're done with said duty, there'll be a glowing exit portal that you click once everything is done, and you are automatically teleported back to where you were when you entered the Duty.

There's also Duty Roulette, once per day you can get a huge XP bonus once you unlock it, basically it will pick any Random Duty that you have unlocked of that type and once you complete it, you'll receive a huge chunk of XP as the job you went as (regardless of what level the Duty was, you can do Lv16 Sastasha as a Lv50 and still get huge XP for it), which is why the Duty Finder population is so healthy, lots and lots of people doing their daily roulettes.

The Duty Finder also uses the Level Sync function, which means if you are a Lv60 and you get into a Sastasha group for your Roulette, you'll be temporarily lowered to Lv16-ish (20 IIRC?) until the end of the dungeon (similar to XI's Level Sync). This means that there are lots of opportunities to meet high level players even while you are a newbie, and learn from them, ask questions, etc if you need. I find that most people I meet are very reasonable and friendly though there are always bad apples occasionally. Usually, it's more the low level "I'll play MY way" type than the stuck-up high level from my experiences.

And what's cool, is that there are a lot of solo quest duties too... like mini-boss fights that you do solo, usually with NPCs helping you or other stuff going on. Some of them are rather cool and unique (like the WHM Lv50 one).

Thank you for the info!
I did assume a tank or healer would find groups faster..
I played a dark knight in 11 which was a DPS guy.. did they turn him into a tank now?
of the Tank jobs which is better Warrior or Paladin? or Drk?

of the Healers which is best?

Yeah, DRK is a tank in FFXIV.

Always going to be a matter of opinion. The real question comes down to which one you enjoy playing the most. For me, I enjoy tanking as paladin and healing as astrologian. To me they just feel good to play. I have nothing particularly against WAR, DRK, WHM, or SCH.. I just like PLD and AST more.

You can't unlock Dark Knight until you gain access to the expansion areas at level 50+ so you'll have to start as a Warrior or Paladin, and you'll have to level both a bit anyway for your cross class skills so you'll get a feel for both.

Go with whatever's the most fun to play. Every job in every role is viable in this game.

I found that Paladins are not too difficult to learn how to play. It's rather simple, to be honest, but yet they are rather effective tanks. Once you get the hang of it, you can round up mobs and nobody should be able to pull anything off of you, if you know what your buttons do and how to use them (which is rather simple, again). But then, even when it comes to tanking bosses, that huge shield of yours makes for a brick wall that keeps the boss away from your squishy group members. And there's just something awesome about throwing your shield at an enemy and it seemingly returns to your arm like a boomerang to pull (kinda like Captain America). Always enjoyed Shield Lob myself, lol.

They probably don't put out as much damage as a WAR or DRK would, but I find that they aren't TOO bad, anyways. Seems like they've been buffed since a year or so ago when I last played before coming back recently. That, or it is because I was able to grab an i120 weapon well before I was meant to, haha.

White Mages are a staple in healing, they seem rather well-rounded; they have good AoE heals, good Single-targets and even some HoTs, along with an MP-Restore ability that they learn later in levels. It also has surprisingly good soloability (though it won't be anywhere near as good as SCH, because SCH can also switch to their DPS counterpart and both are leveled at the same time).

Throw in some decent Sleep and AoE Damage and you got yourself a rather good job to invest in.

I can't really comment on the other heal/tank jobs, as I've never played them far enough to do anything serious in.

EDIT: I will say something about Black Mages..... dude, the sheer damage. They can absolutely wreck face when you get them geared, and unlike in FFXI, you have MP management skills so that you never need to plunk your rear parts (*sigh* stupid ZAM filter...) down on the ground to heal up. As long as you got a tank to keep it off you, or if you can kill it before it does anything to you, you will absolutely destroy everything in your path with huge nukes once you learn Fire III and Blizzard III. That passive ability that gives you Firestarter is also a "Woah!" skill once you learn it. Nothing like a Free, and Instant-Cast Fire III randomly after casting Fire to make you feel powerful.

About the first free Crit that dumped a huge chunk off a mob's health I was like "yeah, this is awesome."

No.

Leveling in FFXIV is a largely solo affair with instanced dungeons mixed in where you'll use automated matchmaking to build parties.
