Hmm, kinda glad I was spoilered on this.

I think pretty much from this point forward, I'm just going to assume that all of the main characters WILL die at some point.

That way, I can just force myself not to get attached to any of them. I mean seriously, is SE doing this just to be "dark and edgy" or something? I don't think I've heard of a game that just kills off the whole main cast of characters closest to the PC, having them dropping like flies left and right.

Oi.

Well at least I know to not care about any of the characters, even though one of them (Yugiri) I'm a bit partial to and fond of. Though sadly, they're probably going to just knock her off too if they haven't already.

*sigh*

Ah well. Can't get myself invested in the characters or their stories if I know they're just gonna die anyways. What's the use? I didn't boot up a game to have my emotions put through the wringer, so a natural defensive response is to just plain forbid myself from caring about the characters in the game.

I think that's kind of a shame, though, because in an RPG, you are supposed to care about the characters. There's enough tragedy, death, and sadness IRL that I don't come to a game seeking more of the same. I play a game like FFXIV to feel like the hero that saves the day. Watching all of my friends dropping like flies around me doesn't really promote that IMO.

Ah well.

The Yda you know is still very much alive. The "actual" Yda died long ago, and her sister stepped into her shoes.

That said, I was much less moved by this than the finale of ARR's transition storyline, but the core HW storyline more than made up the difference.

I feel the same way, Thayos. The way I view it is that this ending was meant to be less of a directly personal narrative drive and more just to get things rolling. Similar to what you said, the HW story more than made up for it. I also feel they held back for this ending so as to not spoil anything in SB. It worked great for HW, of course, but maybe they felt they should hold back this time and save it for the expansion itself. Who truly knows, right? :3 Again, I feel the same way as you.

I'm just glad that we will FINALLY be moving beyond Eorzea with this expansion, as well as finally leaving the last vestiges of 1.0 behind (going into the reasons for why I feel that way would take too long, and I refuse to derail this thread).

The ending of ARR was cool but it ultimately fell flat for me because that kind of scenario doesn't work well in an MMO. There's a price on your head and you can't be seen in Ul'dah/Thanalan yet there's no sign of it in the open world. Kills it for me.

I'm a lot more interested in the story leading to Stormblood and Doma/Ala Mihgo.

They explained that.

Because you're the Warrior of Light and everybody knows it, and everybody loves you... absolutely nobody is willing to turn you in/arrest you/etc, so all the Monetarists can do is cry about it.

A ruler is nothing if none of their subjects are willing to follow their commands, afterall. Makes perfect sense.

And even if some of the corrupt Brass Blades were willing to try it, they know better to turn a grooved nail (sigh... stupid ZAM filter...) with the guy/girl who felled Primals, Ultima Weapon, the guy/girl who made the Imperials cower in fear... they know that they'd never win, so they don't have the balls to even TRY it.

And RE:Yda, that's a relief. Was gonna say, sheesh.

EDIT: In fact, that makes better sense than random thugs attacking the Dragonborn in Skyrim when he's wearing full dragon armor and they're only wearing leather and he's got daedric weapons, and they got little iron pig-stickers.

Or it's just the limitations of an MMO. You can literally go from being chased out of Ul'dah by hundreds of guards ready to kill you to immediately walking back in to check the market board Smiley: lol
