Im curious to what peoples plans are for the game race wise.

I wanna be a gnome mage! gonna kick some tiny butt

I'm going to create four characters of various races and try out each of the four base job archetypes before I make a final decision.

I'm leaning towards a Human, Half Elf, Gnome, High Elf, Dark Elf or Eremite. But...who knows? I have only just recently started reading about the game, and trying to learn the races/jobs, etc. I kind of feel like I'm going to be left behind a bit, but I'm doing my best to make up the time. >_<

Given the amount of running to and fro required to get all the questing and leveling done to get to 15+ with decent gear (quest rewards), it is not likely most people will start with more than 1 or 2 toons.

The website is pretty comprehensive witht he basic descriptions of each Archetype.

While you are playing that Archetype and running your class quest for level 10, you get a little info on what each of the classes can do and a little glimpse into each one.

This is a small helper but it is there. The basic mechanics of the game are all well explained early on...then it is a matter of narrowing to your class and eventually to your subclass.

(There is not a "mini-quest" to show you what the sub-classes can so because, aside from a couple of exceptions, are just good/evil versions of what you have been playing. Those exceptions are the one class of each Archetype that can be taught in both cites.)

BE PREPARED....you may likely run up your toon in Freeport (Troll for example) and want him to be a MONK. This will mean running a very difficult quest to betray the city of Freeport and becoming a permenant resident of Qeynos...and NO you may NOT betray again to return home. You will be stuck witht he tree-huggin' so-nice-it-makes-you-wanna-vomit good-hearted losers of Qeynos...and the same goes the other way. If you wanna make a High Elf Necromancer...you MUST start in Qeynos and betray them and come to Freeport.

All in all it is a very innovative system that is quite fun.

Wow....got a little long-winded there :)

I think I am gonna have to try out the Iksar Mage. Not sure yet if I am going to go the route for Betrayal of Freeport or not. Would be interesting to have an iksar running around in Qeynos though. Heehee

I know I am going to fill out all 4 slots of course, but at least one is going to be an artificer that will be specialized to help whichever char I decide to make my main.

I'm going to play a Dark Elf, of course ;) My biggest decision right now is not necessarily what Archetype I want to pursue, but what class, ultimately I want my character to be. So if I know I want my character to be a "Shadowknight" then picking the fighter Archetype is obvious.

The Betrayal quests have presented me with an interesting option, though. I am considering betraying Freeport and becoming a Dark Elf Paladin. Now that would be interesting to play! Imagine not only a Dark Elf walking through Qeynos, but a Paladin, at that!

I am considering a mage class, because I like the spell effects, but if the outfits are not interesting, then I will definitely stick with a fighter Archetype. I also like to be able to take damage well and that's another benefit to the any of the fighter classes, especially as I'm exploring the new world.

Yes, I know that all the classes are supposed to be able to solo up to 50, but I just have so much more confidence in a beefed up Shadowknight (or Paladin) with a sharp, shiny, sword. :)

Hey scottfredericksen, an Iskar Mage sounds really fun and interesting to play, I may have to try that out as my second character!

I've been getting a lot of questions recently regarding what sub-classes are allowed in each city. Without further ado, here we go:

Fighter

Warrior>
Guardian
Berserker

Brawler>
Monk (Qeynos)
Bruiser (Freeport)
Crusader>
Paladin (Qeynos)
Shadowknight (Freeport)

Priest

Cleric>
Templar (Qeynos)
Inquisitor (Freeport)
Druid>
Warden
Fury
Shaman>
Mystic (Qeynos)
Defiler (Freeport)

Mage

Sorcerer>
Wizard
Warlock
Enchanter>
Illusionist (Qeynos)
Coercer (Freeport)
Summoner>
Conjurer (Qeynos)
Necromancer (Freeport)

Scout

Rogue>
Swashbuckler (Qeynos)
Brigand (Freeport)
Bard >
Troubador
Dirge
Predator>
Ranger (Qeynos)
Assassin (Freeport)

This is straight from Blackguard. IF you see NO city beside the class, it is available in both cities.

THis should clarify it a lot....your Iksar Mage idea would REQUIRE you to betray to be a mage since it is good only.

I want to be an Erudite Priest, Druid, Warden eventually....I hope that works out....LOL>

I think I'm going to end up maining as a Human Paladin. I want to possibly get into an RP guild, and that character archetype is the one I most identify with. So far, at least.

I was originally planning to make a halfling druid as a continuation of my old 65 toon in EQlive, but after getting the pre-order bonus disc and creating some characters I decided that the half-elves just look way too cool to pass up. I love their different piercings and multi-colored hair. I also plan on making a Ratonga Assasin, which just sounds fun. Later on an orge or kerran might be cool too.

I'm going to try EQ2, mostly for the crafting, but am planning on trying out a Troll fighter/Armorer and an Erudite mage/Alchemist. Goodie/baddy, melee/caster, durable/consumable (trade goods). If I don't like either, who knows?

Hey! I didn't expect to see you around here.^^

I'm going to try crafting from the start as well. Most likely armorer or weaponsmith will be my final goal.

I still plan to keep my FFXI account to play a couple of times a week with my friends who are staying. But I plan to move my crafting efforts to EQ2. I would have like to say that I got cloth to 100, but the truth is I can't make myself sit down and raise the 4-5 million gil that will take. It just isn't fun enough.

So time for something new!

That is sort of my thought process as well. I'm excited about getting in on the ground floor of this and making some new friends.^^

I'm very excited to be on the ground floor and read a few positngs that seem to indicate that there is a need for scholars, because spells can be tweeked or upgraded. I was also was told by beta tester that this a big deal for higher levels. Any thoughts?

BTW Barbarian/Rogue ;)

Troll Shadownight all the way! Totally evil, always hungry, nad with a huge sword and nasty spells to make thos tasty little high-elves easier to chew on!

Dwarven Templar (in the end)

I played a Dwarven Cleric in EQ so it's only natural. ^^

Edit: Yay! Popsi is here to inform us all in the ways of EQ2 crafting!

Like Popsi, I'll be keeping my FFXI account just to touch base with friends and my LS, but otherwise I'll be moving to EQ II asap. Think I'll be trying first a Ratonga Ranger or Assasin, and possibly a Shadow Knight, although I'm undetermined on what race to try that job with. We'll see ^^

But yes, I'm very interested in moving my crafting efforts over to EQ II also ^^ Cya'll real soon

True enough, though the latest patch has really mangled the whole spell upgrade situation. Currently higher level fighter skills can't be created due to issues with alchemical components. There are also availability issues with the higher level rare components need for spells, and leveling a scholar is really difficult (no easy repeatable recipes).

Of course all this is subject to change. The last patch was a major update to a lot of stuff, and the next patch will likely rebalance/fix a lot of these issues. I think the crafting in EQ2 will prove much more interesting than FFXI.

tough call...

I've always had a draw to Elves, 1/2 Elves, and Humans... though the Kerra look nifty and I adore the ratonga...

but I think I'll start with a High Elf or Half-Elf Cleric (I have such a weak spot for healing classes it's sad in a way.. lol.. them and thieves) That said I MUST at least try a Scout class and take them Assassin, so one of my alts will likely be a Scout.

I plan on playing the froglok race and going berserker for kicks and as a main.
#23 Nov 02 2004 at 8:17 AM Rating: Decent
Well apparently each char will not only get to adventure and get xp, but can also do an artisan tree as well. I had thought at first you could have an adventurer OR an artisan character. This is a lot better... now to figure out which 4 artisan skills will be the best ones to get for my chars. I know at least one is gonna be a carpenter though. Gotta see what kinds of cool furniture you can make! :)
