Tin??!!? As in the metal ?Follow

#1 Nov 09 2004 at 8:44 PM Rating: Decent
I just got an email about the status of my DVD " Collectors Edition" ...Try not to fall off the chair laughing .
They say that the "Importation Containers " have been held up by the Customs Department because of the presence of " Tin" in the packaging . Sony says the game should ship to me by Friday .
I was wondering if there is some kind of " Tin" quarantine procedure ? Could we be facing a new terroist plot to flood the USA with cheap metal action figures or something ?
I respect the Homeland Security`s job to try and keep us safe . However, I dont think I need to worry about " Tin" from Sony Corp. ..Do I ? .../wink

well, they outlawed Lead for many uses in the late 80's because some jerk in NY legislator found out his sons miniatures for gaming were made out of lead. Now it's all tin based.... whichis odd considering Tin is inherently MORE toxic then lead is and the manufaturing of tin is very non-enviromentaly friendly.

and the "Collector's Tin" is an alluminum based alloy box.

Enjoy!

This is the message I got in my E-mail.....You guys have a great sense of humor.....but mine is all gone now......What the heck I pay twice the amount for the game, and I wait twice as long to get it.....and they charged me for shipping of $12.50 for next day delivery......I also ordered the CD version of the game from EB Games Online...and they are shipping the starter kit, and the cd for free...what up with that? And Sony charged me $6.95 for shipping the starter kit....Geeeze......

Thank you for your recent pre-order or order of EverQuest [R] II: Collector’s Edition.

We experienced an unfortunate delay with U.S. Customs in clearing importation of recent shipments of the "tin" in which it is packaged. As a result we will not begin shipping the orders for these units until late this week.

We offer you our apology.

At this time we would like to offer you the ability to cancel your Station Store pre-order or order. No refund is necessary as your product has not been shipped and you have not been charged for the purchase.

To cancel send your Station Name and Order number to returns@soe.sony.com. Requests for cancellation must be received by 6:00 PM PST on Wednesday, November 10, 2004. Once you request the cancellation you will be unable to reinstate that order. If you decide you want the product you will need to visit the Station Store to repurchase it (https://store.station.sony.com/hardgood.jsp?SKU=EQ2RE-HG-SW1104-CLLCTR).

If you choose not to cancel your pre-order or pending order (and purchase the Collector’s Edition from the Station Store), we will include an additional seven (7) days service in addition to the regular thirty (30) days once you register a Collector’s Edition account key.

We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.

Sincerely,

Sony Online Entertainment

I'm very angry with them over this right now. The SOB's sent an email out last week about how it was "in stock" and everything was fine. Now, on day 2 of when it's shipping, we get told there was a problem with US Customs over the tin container you're importing from whatever 3rd world country they used. Here we are shelling out $90 a piece for these special collector's edition of this freakin game and they give us 3rd rate customer service. They knew yesterday this game wasn't shipping out on time and that there was a problem. It's not complicated crap to figure this out. Atleast I didn't take the day off for this, or I would've been much madder than I am now.

As far as the whole "TIN" thing goes I personally think it is a bunch of mularky, my DVD version contains no "TIN". Along with the fact that every single retail chain in the area has had all versions on the shelves for two days. I can't even cancel my order as I did not order the CE version and as such have received no e-mail saying SOE screwed up. That being said, I will be puchasing my version from retailer, and mark my words I will NEVER "pre-order" anything again.Oh yeah, let us not forget that the retailers are selling it for $10 less than I paid for my "pre-order".

I am in the same boat and have been furious all day. I unfortunately took the day off thinking that maybe they forgot to send me an email about sending it. So yeah i had to hear about it from a friend 5 hours before they ever sent me thier BS explanation of why they didnt ship the game. I called SOE and actually got through to a customer service rep after all of this and he told me that they accidentally sold out of the copies (by selling to retail stores and other distributers) and that was the reason why it wasnt shipped. I personally will never order anything through sony again. And yes I got the comfirmation email also on the 5th stating that my preorder was in stock and ready to ship. What a bunch of bull SOE has screwed is loyal customers over once again.

It is pretty bad if they got 'some' Collectors Editions and are sending them to stores instead of the people who bought them directly. I would be a LOT less pissed if I had not gotten that message that it is "IN STOCK" 5 days before the message saying customs had it. Now if they are mailing it from outside the country that is ONE thing but I have a feeling it will get mailed from somewhere in the middle of the country.

I would take that opportunity to cancel if I thought there was any chance to get a copy from the ONE store that sells it on the island I live on.

At least you guys got an email saying it was delayed. I have gotten no email about this delay at all. I got one last week saying it was in stock and ready to ship! I say fire the shipping manager!

My wife and I pre bought the Collectors edition and the normal DVD edition back in September directly from Sony online store and we got the email on the Nov 5th stating that it was in stock. We spent over $150 of this preorder and the collectors edition still hasn't shipped and as off noon Wednesday I finally got my regular DVD order. But I could have gone to EBGames or BestBuy 2 days ago and paid $10 less and had been playing then. I feel Sony online store has done a terrible disservice to the loyal direct preorder customers. I will never again pre order from Sony online store again.

You guys will love this, i was at Best Buy in Spokane WA. at 1:30pm 11/9/04. There were at least 20 collectors edditions in the "import held up" tins. So was it held up ONLY for the pre order peeps?
