Well, thus far I'm impressed...I won't get real descriptive, but I already love this game...My neck hurts pretty bad (how can I fix this?) so I'm gonna give it a rest for a bit...

My question though is...I've been told to get another stick of 512 RAM (2.65 Ghz and Geforce4 ti 4200), but thus far the game runs pretty smooth on the lower settings, nothing is really jerky, there's a little bit of a delay when I move stuff around in inventory (might be because I'm on dial up), I haven't made it to Queynos yet though...

Bottom line, what will another stick of 512 do? Will I just be able to kick the settings up higher and it will look better or...The game seems to play pretty well the same as EQ1 did...I don't have another system to compare mine to, so for those of you that have upgraded from 512 to 1meg, how significant was the change?

Thanks for the replies

If you can afford it, go for it. You can never have enough RAM. :)

I agree with Xiaoshan.

I went from 512MB DDR ram, to 1Gig of ram and i noticed a difference in everything, from loading to game play.

Only downfall you may have is the dial-up connection and any latency it may cause, aside from that you should be fine.

The difference between 512MB Ram and 1 Gig is almost like the difference between day and night . Go for it .
Just make sure you get the same manufacturer of the Ram and the same Ram type that you have in your machine now.

If you have the money, I say go for it. Not only will it help out a ton playing EQ2, but it's pretty good for, well, just about any other application you can name. More RAM = good.

Note though that it'd take an artist's eye to tell the difference in many of the graphics settings because the enhancements can be so subtle. The game looks amazing at 1280x1024 75mhz and just gets better (though incrementally) when you add things on like dynamic lighting effects, enhanced shadowing, particle effects and more.

Get 2Gb of fast ram (cas 2.5 or 2) and you see the difference......... even witha 256 Mb Video card.
:D

a SURE sign that you need more ram is if your computer starts pagefiling like there's no tomorrow.

how can you tell if it's doing this? play the game for a while.. and if things marginally slow down and you get a LOT of harddisk access for no apparent reason, it means your system ram is used up and it's resorting to the swap file to make up the difference... this causes game stutter and overall slow performance cause harddrives are WAY slower than pure system RAM.

typically you don't get into pagefiling badly once you have 1GB of ram or more.. if you're pusing less than 1GB well, all I can say is you may.. or you may not experience excessive pagefiling.. depending on your in-game settings. I for one.. LOVE eye-candy and pretty games so I tend to push the settings as high as possible.. volumetric shadows, High res textures, yes.. love them.. those shadows kill my PC in SWG though (and I have a 3.2GHz P4, 800mhz FSB with 1GB of ram running on a 9600XT)

will ram upgrading help you?? All I can say is from a friends SWG experience, going from 512 to 1GB of ram SERIOUSLY fixed his game-stutter issues and improved overall game quality.

everyone has different levels of demand.

Im using P4 2.4MHz + 768MB RAM + GForce 4 Ti 4200 128MB.

I felt I ran smoother than when I was playing EQ1. Maybe because I still run around in some low population zone. I might feel horrible lag when in a zone with 50+ ppls.

RAMs are cheap now. maybe I will add 1 more 256MB RAM stick later.
