Installation Error OccuredFollow

#1 Nov 10 2004 at 9:51 PM Rating: Decent
Plain and simple, I am getting multiple errors while installing the game, however the ones I get on the first DVD disc format disc I get the option to ignore them and keep going onward with the install process. Once I get to disc 2 however, this error comes up and kills my whole installation.

Component transfer order.
Component: Everquest II
File Group: EQ2 Files
File: E:\data6.cab
Error: Data Error
(Cyclic redundancy check).

Can someone please give me clues as to what the heck I need to do to fix this? For more info sakes, I am on Windows XP, 56k Modem, nVIDIA geforce4 MX 440 graphics card, I have Direct X on my comp with all the new updates. I was able to play FFXI fine, and WoW beta was no problem, so I don't think it's that my comp isn't good enough to run it. Whatever the case, trying to get a live chat with SOE workers is impossible, I waited over a half hour with just An Agent will be with you shortly message being said over from time to time.

I'm going to be gone for about 2 hours, so hopefully someone can shed some light on this, and I'll post back after I get home. Also if anyone else is having install errors with EQ2, feel free to post it here and see what we all can do. Thanks to all who offer advice in advance.

I have no idea about your install problem... but when you get that fix this may be a problem as well nVIDIA geforce4 MX 440 graphics card. Mainly because its not supported, for a geforce4 you need a ti4200 or better for it to work with EQ2.

Sorry for the compounding bad news.

Ok, I just looked at trying to copy the CD files just into a folder on my computer. Again with this method I got the second error about data6.cab. When I then went to look at the files on the CD.....there is no data6.cab. There is a 1-5, but 6 doesn't even exist on my disc! Do I have to get SOE to send me the file then? Or maybe have to get a totally NEW EQ2 game........because game stores will NOT take PC games back thinking you stole the CD Key on them.

Answers of any kind will be very appreciated :(

Contact SoE, as far as I know they can send you the bases for EQ2 (the patcher) which allows you to download the rest of the finals via the net. Or.. Try running the patcher if it was installed on your computer from the first disk.. Thats all I got, sorry.

Okay, I guess once SOE stops being lazy I can. I sent an email to them at 5 PM, and they are open till 9 PM to help with problems, yet no repsonse. I tried live chat same time, of course no luck there, waiting a half hour, then tried again for an extra 15 mins. I thought the file data6 wasn't there, but it is, just wont transfer to my PC. I'm going to be pissed as **** if SOE can't help me at all, and I have to buy a new EQ2, because stores don't take back PC games. *drives head into wall* Sorry, just angry and tired now. Thanks for advice everyone.

How old is your DVD reader? I have noticed that my old one does not read as well as my new DVD-RW I just got.

Can't be the DVD reader, because it can get all of the first DVD disc no prob, just get's the error half way through disc 2. Plus I got my system last year when FFXI came out, granted it is a Hewlet Packed o.O Which is like the bottom line cheap computer, haha.

Outlaw - I recall hearing you couldnt install the game if you couldnt run it...

And your Video card isnt supported.... that may be why. Even if you manage to install it you cant play it...

Im just more so worried about installing it first. The Card can come after it is on the computer. If indeed I need the video card first, then I will go buy one, but I don't know what good it will do if the problem will persist. Thanks for heads up :)

i had the same message with dvd 2, took a look at the dvd and there was an area that was totally screwed up, not a scratch but an area that would not read. took it back to best buy and second copy worked fine

you can install the game even if your video card is not supported. however when you click on play it will give you an error message. my friend has a geforce mx 420 and this happened to him

My system spec's.

AMD 1.4 mhz
512sdram
geforce4 MX420 64bit (no pixel or vertex shader)

Everquest II DvD version installed just like any other game. The game runs on my system alot better than i thought. I know what your thinking,(OMG the lag and frame rate must be awful). It could be better yes, game is playing like eq1 did right after they upgraded to the new game engine and D9. I have to do without all the glamor graphics, even without the high settings the game is completely hands down the best looking online i've ever seen and this is by a large margin. It plays very nice also. On system inspection it showed my video card as supported. It is supported hehe they would rather you use a higher end card for the pixel/vertex shaders to make the game prettier.

Now, your problem is very common. You simply have a bad cd,corrupted file or just a bad burn on the cd itself. If you have a friend that has EQ2 borrow thier second cd to complete the installation. Or grab sony by the balls and make them email you the EQ2 exe file which will take you through the patcher sequence.

This problem has nothing to do with your ram, video card and mhz.

Yah, those last two posts helped me a TON. :) Thank you guys very much that solved the problem for me. I'm going to just have to borrow my friends EQ 2 DVD disc :P Also, isn't my Video Card a higher version then the one you have, and yet mine is not supported? Or am I just confused. I have an nVIDIA geforce4 MX|440. Most of you said no luck there buckaroo, and if that's the case, how much will the video card I want cost? Thanks once more :)

That's my issue now as well... sigh. Either I take it back tomorrow (erm... wait, I have no time... whee!) or hunt down someone else with one... bleh!

There is that one "fix" though it didn't work for me, or for uh... a whooole lot of other people: here.
Mrf... *sigh*
