Some troubles reinstalling the game:Follow

#1 Feb 10 2011 at 12:49 PM Rating: Decent
So, for some obscure reason, when I last played sometime August last year, I removed the game from my computer. Not the smartest move I ever did, but anyway.

I'm in the process of reinstalling it, I began on Monday, and despite the fact that I've exceeded my downloadlimit and am now surfing at about phone line speed (ie way too slow to do much), I've still not installed the game completely.

It's a bit odd, I've let my computer on for hours now, I've seen estimated times of 20 minutes, but a couple of times the system just rescans everything and starts to download again, I'm again at 20 hours now, after three days of almost continuous updating.

It's the voice paks most of the time too, I seem to recall that there were other posters who had problems with the downloader constantly downloading the same files.

Anyone got a thought about this?

(I have to give it to Blizzard, even if it pains me to say it, you don't even have to have the game fully installed before you can play it, a nice thing that perhaps soe can try out too!)

EQ2 does have a streaming client now, that will download as you play. I'm guessing you're using the normal launcher from what you described.

The streaming client seems to work well for most, and it sounds like that's what you're looking for. :)

To get the streaming client go to http://everquest2.com/ then use the "Get the Game" drop-down menu, and at the bottom should be a link to "Download Game". There is another non-streaming option called Station Launcher which has never given me problems, you can get that at http://launcher.station.sony.com/

Hope it works out for you and welcome back. :)

I'm not a fan of the streaming client, but the Station Launcher has always worked well for me. It rarely hangs on files and is MUCH faster than the original launcher (which they are doing away with soon anyway).

I actually completely forgot about that new station launcher, I was still using the old version.

After I started the Station Launcher, it informed me that I had to download 3.65 GB still, for some reason, and that I downloaded it at 36kb/sec. I'm really just going to wait till tomorrow till I start a fresh month and I can download at my regular speed (in theory at about 1mb/sec from Sony, if I recall correctly), it's too absurd to keep it going now.

Thanks for the tips! I didn't know there was a streaming way to play EQII too.

No problem hope the Station Launcher works out well for you then. :) With you having limited data it might be a better choice then streaming as well.

There is going to be an expansion released on the 22nd, so be prepared for another large amount of data to be downloaded in about 8-9 days.

Not sure why but a few nights ago my Station launcher lost any ability to patch, and all I got was error messages telling me it couldn't complete it's patch. After chewing out a dev on the EQ2 forums for them ******** things up.... again!! I finally had to uninstall my Station launcher, and just use the streaming ones. Seems a bunch of people are having this problem, but not all people. I don't understand why this is so. But alas it is. Got to love SOE and these launchers they use.

Well, I'm updated but the game won't launch. It just says "launching" then after about ten seconds returns to "launch game".

So I went to the directory of EQII, used the direct launch command there and it appears the game finds a fault with my d3dx9_31.dll file. Sigh, apparently it's my directx drivers now.

To be continued! :D

My husband actually had that issue when he switched to Windows 7. Looks like a common issue, here's a fix for it: http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/posts/list.m?topic_id=487415

Thanks for the link! I sorted it out after doing an install of the directx 9.0C again, seems to have fixed it so I'm back online!

No longer Najena server though, it would seem it's been merged a bit back. Shame, after that many years.
