Please help with quest Tipping the ScalesFollow

I looked at the quest but couldn't find what I was looking for so I thought I would try here. I killed the Molerat but I didn't get an item from him. I need his blood to feed the wolves. I tried both dens, one was empty and the other had him and a den mother. I kill him but I can't seem to find pups and when I killed him it said I took the blood but I don't see it, can anyone help, please and thank you.
