How do you add new things to ZAM?Follow

#1 Dec 13 2011 at 8:51 AM Rating: Decent
Hi,

My Tailor learned her first recipe from her Apprentice and I was going to try to add it to the database as I did not see any entry for "Tranquil Robe of Havoc" when I searched. Can someone tell me how new items get added here?

Sure! When we don't have database entries we have to make wiki entries. For those we use what's called namespaces (to differentiate between the different games). So for EQ2, we have EQ2 Quest, EQ2 Zone, EQ2 Mob, EQ2 Item, etc.

When making a new wiki page you simply type the url into your browser as if you were going directly there (the other way is by clicking on a "red link" on another wiki page, but that isn't applicable here). So if you type in http://eq2.zam.com/wiki/EQ2_Item:Tranquil_Robe_of_Havoc it will go to a non-existent page for the item Tranquil Robe of Havoc. Once here you can click edit and add in any information that you have about it. It doesn't have to look pretty--Calthine and I can always fix pages with wiki markup later.

For items we have an EQ2 Item template that will categorize the page correctly on our wikibase. You don't have to fill in all the fields it shows and can even crop out excess fields. Here's a small example of using that on a wiki page:

{{EQ2 Item
|type=Armor
|exptag=AoD
|description=
|quality=Mastercrafted Fabled
|minlevel=80
|classes=All Mages
|slots=Chest
|attuneable=y
|}}

Here's an item page using the EQ2 Item template (minorly): http://eq2.zam.com/wiki/eq2_item:Love's_Golden_Defense

Once we do get database entries for wiki entries, the wiki part will automatically link up to the database page. Templates will no longer display but in the meantime it's a way to make it look somewhat pretty. If you don't want to use a template that's fine, but we ask that pages at least have {{eq2}} on them so they become searchable on the site. :)

(wow that was long-winded!) If you have any other questions reply here or feel free to PM me. :)

Well, its there but I have no idea how to get the examine window to show properly or the stats. The screen shots are both there but this is the first I have tried to add anything from scratch so it wasn't a very good job I fear.

We actually don't have anything on the template that allows you to put in stats since normally we end up getting data long before anyone would have the time to manually add the stats. The page looks good, thanks for contributing! :)
