Just make a new toon and leave the level 80 one alone until you have acquired the knowledge.

As mentioned, play around with a lower level mage for a bit. Alternatively, practice the following concepts with your mage:

Kiting, keeping a single mob sheeped while killing others, AoE and finally single target burns on target dummies. If you can do all of those, you'll be at least decent at playing said mage.

Okay, seriously? Nobody is going to ask? Okay I'll ask then. So uh, why'd you kill your brother?

I thought that was pretty obvious: for his account.

GGA, sorry, but some of the sarcasm and slight off-topic banter on these forums by the usual posters is meant entirely humourously. A few of the regulars take some getting used to, by their various bits on various threads, but be assured that even the comments above were meant to put a light hearted twist to whatever the dark circumstances were.

As for the original post, get a feel for a spec ya like, as they play a bit differently than each other.

At the risk of sounding heartless, you've made comments about your brother's passing in a substantial number of your posts. You may not intend to be fishing for sympathy, but it is hard not to get that impression and that doesn't sit well.

If you're going to interact with others, do so on your own merits. Buying a cheap, working keyboard and posting something that shows some ability to navigate the English language better than the average gold farmer spamming the forum would be a step in the right direction. Your random spelling, inability to find the shift key and disdain for grammar are a poor way to pay tribute to your brother, who (if I recall correctly) did online reviews.

its not intentional. i still having a hard time dealing with my brothers death. hes on my mind a lot. he was really god with computers and games like wow. as hard as it is on me it 50 times harder on my mom. we both miss him a lot just never expected to lose him 1 week before his 29th b-day. i am learning how to use my new charictor slowly. im in some sort of under water zone and the 3d movement took some getting used too. i apologize for getting so emotional from joke but just been in a lot pain from my disability. i can barely walk 15 ft so mostly wheel chair bound and no ramp on hose so i been stuck in my home about a month now. and the constont pain made me be sinpy at the jokes, but im sorry. just know my brother was very admiral to me even though he never graduated hs he was still offered jobs and turned down nvidia 3 times. ill never be as good as my brother but we had simmler interests in the pc world. in closing im sorry.

Not touching the rest of this discussion/argument with an 11' pole. That said:

My earlier post was built on the assumption that you were somewhat experienced with the game as a whole and just unfamiliar with the class. Since that assumption seems to be in error, ignore my other advice and make a completely new character and level it. There are a lot of basic things you're meant to learn as you go. Without them, you'll lack the foundation needed to play any class properly.

Some of my funnest memories in Wow are exploring the new world as a low level toon. It is much more fun doing that the first time through than sitting around at level cap. The thrill of going down the road and venturing just a bit too far, escaping from higher level monsters (or not), simply should not be skipped.

I love coming across completely new players in the game. I've often helped them by getting them a skinning knife, or giving them a ride to the mining trainer. I may make them an extra bag, and give them some advice like "Level your gathering professions and sell what you gather at the AH, and don't beg for gold." Don't throw away some of your funnest wow memories.

It's great that you have a level 80 toon. Make it the second character that you level to 81. Take a level 1 mage and get him to level 20. You will then have a better understanding of how mages work. What ever other characters you have should continue to level and see the content. Also, be aware that you can go to the bulletin board in your capital city and get a quest to go to Mount Hyjal, your other level 80 area. You don't have to level in Vashir, the underwater zone. Not everyone likes the 3d aspect of leveling underwater.

Good luck and have fun gaining experience. Don't jump in over your head right away.
