Our dps is ranging from 19k to about 35k. We can't stand still and target changes are being called out every few seconds, and I don't think melee can even get *to* the boss half the time.
Total mess basically.
The taunts between the tanks make or break this encounter. If they don't know when to taunt you won't down this boss any time soon. Be sure to have them look this up or look it up for them and relay the info to them. If the taunts are done correctly the encounter becomes beatable. Otherwise not so much.
As for the chains I think the best way for people not very experienced in this area is just have the people that are chained together move together. You could try to break them (we break them) but what I gather from forum posts on the o-boards and MMO-C forums many people find it easier just to move in pairs (the ones chained together move together).
19k is NOT okay at level 90. Take a hard look at their gear. Most likely they are not even remotely hit capped and their attacks keep missing all the time. 35k is not great either but try to improve the damage of your lowest DD first. Make sure they have everything gemmed/enchanted. While these are minor bonuses they add up. It is not necessary to have the top enchants that are available now (wrist and weapon sure are incredibly expensive) but something spec-appropriate that is from the MoP-era should be on every enchantable slot. Blue gems should be cheap enough to not have green/no gems. Socket bonuses are worth grabbing most of the time.
The ~50k I posted is not needed to down this boss but 19k just doesn't cut it. Our tanks were doing more when we first killed Guardians.
I know there are people who just want to kick back, relax and down some raidbosses. But without some preparation this is not possible in tier 14. At least not now without any %-nerfs to the encounters and with the gear that is available now. It is a very different beast compared to DS. It is important to make your raidmembers accept this. Otherwise you will just bash your head into a very nasty brick wall for weeks to come.
I face a similar problem with my raid (as mentioned before) because some of our players just don't focus enough during our tries. They have executed the mechanics often enough now so I know they are capable of it. But they ***** up enough times so I know they are not willing/capable of playing to their best for 3 hours straight. I'm all for a relaxed atmosphere. But only AFTER we beat the boss. Not during our wipes. I just don't get how they can talk in TS about totally mundane things while we die ingame over and over again. Shouldn't they realize they need to pay attention and stop blabbering until the boss dies? It boggles my mind. We could have been 5/12 nHC instead of 4/12 nHC last ID easily. And that makes me a rather disappointed panda.
@bodhisattva: I can attest to that. Guardians without chains are far easier than any combination with chains.
Edit because of the targeting issue Pantherfern mentioned: Make every raidmember aware that there is no need to call targets out. Just attack the two bosses that are together. Ignore the one that is tanked alone. Ideally all DD should have all their DoTs, bleeds, etc up on both the bosses that are tanked together. If a boss is taunted just have them switch to the new group of two Guardians. There is no need to clutter up voice chat with something like this.
- Ignore the single boss. Target the group of two bosses.-
Simple as that.
