I think MS should still look at expanding their digital services. Keep the shared library for digital content (even though currently it does not sound like they will). Show their customers how good they can actually make the service (and actually make it good) and by the next generation people may realize it was a actually a decent idea, just explained and presented poorly and at a time when customers weren't ready for it. And PS5 will copy them that generation too.

Now, now. I'm sure it's just a matter of time until Bit Coins can be used at dozens of online retailers.

Did you guys see that yesterday Gamestop had pulled pre-orders for XBone? That could have something to do with the about-face...

But wasn't it already known that Gamestop was one of the authorized retailers that would have done the whole license transferring thing? I just really doubt that Gamestop's opinion was the tipping point in this decision.

I don't think the used game thing was all about getting $7 for a used game from Gamestop. It was about being able to rent a game, being able to loan/burrow games to/from friends. Also I have never traded a game to Gamestop. There is this thing called Ebay where you can actually sell your used games for a fair price... I can usually get around $45 for a newer released used game. Not all of us want to play games on-line for months after we buy it. Some of us play the 10 hours worth of singleplayer content and are done with it.

That is also why I don't buy $60 new releases on steam. I think the most expensive steam games I ever bought was $20. Most of them are between 5 and 15 dollars.

Don't buy an X1 if you plan on getting yourself banned, I guess.

Also, the brunt of that looks to be before they took back their stance on DRM. So, the system could be different with those changes.

I would love to see someone with like 1+k in games get an account ban for something outside their control, That would bring digital rights ownership to courts in a hurry I would think. Also Microsoft is retarded Not even Sony or Valve takes away the games you bought.I think origin does but people only use those for a few games.

I know for a fact if my Steam account was banned I would lawyer up in a minute since I have like 400 games on there.

Edit: Also about not getting yourself banned, Xbox had to blanket unban everyone not to long ago because they found an error in their auto ban software tghey couldnt tell who was banned for real and who was banned mistakenly so they just unbanned everyone

I thought it was made clear before the whole turn around thing that even if you were banned from Xbox Live, your discs would still have worked?

http://www.engadget.com/2013/06/15/major-nelson-takes-xbox-one-questions-says-banned-users-will-a/

The whole "banned from Xbox Live = No games LOL" was another of those bits of misinformation spread around and debunked relatively quickly. Even when the whole 24 hour all digital etc thing existed, being banned would not remove your games.

Here is the article my Uncle sent me this morning, over the last weekend I was talking to him about ps4 vs Xb1.

I find it all funny. Microsoft must have been so worried about sales to not stick to their guns and give the world a "different" counsel as they so much wanted to.

More details coming out about the systems. Turns out the PS3 really only has around 4.5GB of RAM available to developers, with a tiny bit extra tucked away in a secret location.

With all the back pedaling that MS did with the XBOX One (lowering DRM, allowing Indie self publishing, etc.) and the new details about the systems, there is really no distinct advantage to either side any longer. Beyond the initial hypes and PR disasters, now that things have settled, both are pretty much at the same level.

And until PS+ revenue starts rolling in from the PS4 and Sony upgrades their systems, LIVE is still a more stable and easier to use system than PSN. I can only hope that the PS4's integration into the PSN is much more fluid, and you don't have to 'run' the Store every time you want to browse for deals.

PS4 is still $100 cheaper. To truly be competitive at launch, I think MSoft needs to release a Kinect-less X1 for ~$429.

I wouldn't call them equal, all things considered. Sure, they have a comparable amount of RAM. But we know far more about the PS4's innards than we do the XBone's.

The price point is a huge advantage for the PS4, as is the initial hype they've already generated. PS4 has generated a ton of pre-orders already, which gives them a much stronger position moving into the next generation for courting exclusive contracts, among other things.

They also haven't announced any details about the self publishing system they have in play. And considering their previous stance on the issue, it's unlikely this has been in development for a while. We know it won't be a launch feature, and we have no clue when it'll be available. If the buyer cares about indie titles, the PS4 is going to be far more attractive at launch. If it's going to take a while for Microsoft to get this feature out there, that issue will be compounded.

It's also worth noting that the PS4 is aesthetically the sleeker device. The XBone is about the side of the massive PS3, with the PS4 being much closer to the size of the PS2.

The integration with the Vita, as it stands now, blows away what Microsoft has mentioned with Smartglass. And they've also announced about as much in way of using your phone/tablet with the system as Microsoft has.

There might be limited backwards compatibility through cloud streaming, which might give you access to any titles you purchased digitally already, as well as open up the PSN store to new users.

After that, it's mostly the TV features vs. the Social Media features. I don't personally care about either and I'm not willing to comment on what gamers would prefer. That said, Microsoft's apparent focus on the former has definitely soured their relationship with the gaming community.

Can the XBone catch up? Probably. But I'm fully expecting a similar slow start scenario like the PS3 had.

I don't even care about the differences in internals, or even about the exclusives. I'm not putting a kinect in my home.

The same thing will be true that will always be true - the game will look best on the console it was designed and optimized for, and will look slightly worse on the console it was ported onto. There have been exceptions, but that rule has held pretty firmly.

You're not going to see the stuff beneath the hood getting made the most of in anything but exclusives. The vast majority of the games any of us will play next gen will be cross-platform, and they'll look fantastic. But with Sony's design architecture being easier to use this generation, combined with a solid head start at launch, they may end up with more finely tuned games than the XBone has. If you care that much about eeking out slightly better graphics/performance, but it's really not a big deal. The difference isn't going to match up against the content for exclusives.

Now if they'd just bring KH to the goddamn PC, I could forgo the console altogether...
