Went to Target this morning (because the Starbucks is the closest decent coffee shop, and I was feeling lazy/out of coffee).

Couldn't understand why so many people were waiting outside. Always a few (it opens at 8) for coffee.

Didn't remember until we got in that the PS4 release was today. Smiley: lol

So did any of you get one? I assume I'll end up with one sometime during this generation. Once they have some decent games, and version 2 or 3 is out. Gonna need a next gen system for KH3. Smiley: grin

I'm not really an early adopter for game consoles.

If it was backwards compatible id have a preorder on it. But Console launches tend to suck game selection wise for about 6 months (and fixes for hardware/os issues etc). Maybe 1-2 games,,,,I have 6 ps3 games I haven't even opened yet....

I'm not THAT bad.

I mean, I've opened them...

I'm still only a few chapters into The Last of Us, because then FFXIV came out, and then XY came out, and now Zelda is coming out...

And I've recently really been wanting to go back to Skyward Sword. I really don't like motion gaming, but the fact that I never finished it bugs me, because I really liked the art, and I want to know the lore, and the music was just awesome.

Dammit. I need more free time.

At least it's a pretty paperweight. Smiley: grin

[EDIT]

Worth noting that they announced a new Uncharted for the PS4.

apparently it doesn't sit balanced...only 3/4 pads (feet) touch.

As for the games I have sitting here. They are games Ive already played to death on the PS1/2 just never bothered playing them on the PS3 (the Prince of Persia collection and the Tomb Raider collection) Each have 3 games in them so I might have stretched the truth a bit.

It's designed to sit on 3.

There's just no good reason to buy a console at launch this time around. No meaningful games that aren't also out for current systems, no backwards compatibility, and no other features that might make it worth while just for that. The PS2/3 at least had DVD/Blu-ray players at a time when those were still relatively expensive and were backwards compatible. This time around I can, um, play Assassin's Creed with slightly better graphics that probably aren't even noticeable on my TV?

Yeah, besides the Bluray thing, I can't really think of a "must buy" launch.

And it's sort of weird when you think about Nintendo. They have SO MANY flagship series, but they so rarely have a Zelda ready for launch. I suppose they did with the Wii, but it was releasing on Gamecube too, so whatever.

I bought one.

I used it as a reward to myself for not drinking as much. Instead of buying a 12-pack or two a week, I'd buy a 6-pack, and put the rest of the money towards the PS4. It was a pretty decent way to get myself to be a little bit more healthy.

I had to pick it up at midnight since I'm working doubles today and tomorrow, and Gamestop will only hold it for 48 hours even though it's completely paid for. I went after I got out of work at 10PM. They gave you a stamped receipt with a number on it, and at 1145, they lined everyone up by number, and at midnight they started handing the consoles out. I was #54 and had the console in my hands by 10 past.

Setup was a snap. I had the update already downloaded to a USB stick, and it took all of five minutes to run it and have me into the system. I don't know that I really needed to pre-download it anyway, as I was able to get the Playstation Plus games from PSN without a hitch, too.

Played a little bit of Resogun, one of the PS+ games, and man is it fun. Of course, I've always been a sucker for bullet hell shmups, so there's that.

Killzone is gorgeous. I know that 60FPS is pretty standard on PC games, but I've gotten used to the lower caps on consoles. Since I almost never play first-person shooters on my computer, almost all of my experience with them is on consoles at a lower framerate, so the jump is extremely noticeable to me. Dialog is a little rough at times, but the setting is cool to me. I only played for maybe a half hour or 45 minutes, so I didn't get to do too much.

The controller as a whole is a vast improvement in my mind over the DualShock 3. The buttons seem a little smaller and closer together, but I'm not sure. The trackpad adds enough bulk to the controller so that it's overall more comfortable in my hands than the DS3. The thumbsticks are great, and the concave triggers are a fantastic change. The controller is a little lighter than I'd prefer, but it doesn't feel cheap.

The system itself is pretty slim. I have a fatty PS3, and an Elite 360, and this thing is just super small compared to them. I didn't buy the vertical stand for it, but it stands up well on its own and seems very stable. I don't have room for horizontal positioning, unless I want it trapped in the entertainment center with the cable box and all that heat. I'll pass on that. Had zero issues with the HDMI port. Only problem I had was with the optical audio port, where I couldn't get my cable to seat properly, but I'm pretty sure it's the cord at this point, since I've had the same issue on a few other devices. Not a big deal for me, since I just use it for a wireless headset. I'm going to grab a new cable and see how that works.

One of the things I didn't like was that while there's some TwitchTV integration, it seemed like you could only watch other people's PS4 streams. I don't think that you have full access to TwitchTV. There's no other app to download. Could be that I was just missing something when I pulled it up, but if I wanted to watch some Starcraft or something, I didn't see a way to do so.

I'm going to wait and see if someone gives me one(lol) or it drops to a reasonable price. And by reasonable I mean around $200 just not that interested in it for $400. I'm sure one of my friends won't be able to wait and gets one sooner that I can mess around with.

No interest. Still don't have a PS3 and there are a lot of games on that I really really really want to play. If it was backwards compatable I'd be a lot more interested, especially if it just played every fricking playstation disk in existence (then I could get rid of my PS2!) - clearly never going to happen... but that is what it would take for me to be interested.

I almost never play any of the consoles I already have other than my 3DS, so I have kept myself from buying a PS3 - can't see why I would buy a PS4 when there are zero games I am interested on it.

I mean, I can't even bring myself to buy a Vita (which I really really really want to want) because there is not a single game on it yet that I want enough. The two I am most interested in are both PS2 titles, one of which I have. It's definitely not enough to sell me.

There have been some pretty cheap PS3 bundles, lately. And it's a solid multimedia box.

I plan to buy one eventually, but not anytime soon. There are only a couple games for it that interest me right now, and one of them is AC4, so no reason to buy a new console for that. Not to mention I still have four or five games for PS3 I still want to play. A year or so from now I'll look into getting one, but probably not before that. Speaking of new console purchases, I picked up a used Vita on Ebay for a decent price this weekend, so I'll have that to keep me occupied for awhile.

The nice thing about buying a handheld system late is that there's a decent backlog of games already, and you'll be able to play them in situations you couldn't (or wouldn't) play a console or PC game.

But waiting too long to get a console could suck, because the number of games you want to play can be overwhelming with the new releases you want.

I mean, with my PS3, I'm sitting on The Last of Us, Ni No Kuni, the KH remake, FFXIII-2, Uncharted (womp), etc.

And, of course, the problem with PC games is that you have 87 of them in your backlog...

Yeah it is, and yeah the bundles have been getting cheap and tempting me.

I have honestly considered it, but I have my wii for netflix on my tiny crappy LCD TV (HD ain't gonna do me any good) and my xbox for anything that is not PS3 exclusive, so even if it is "only" 300 bucks I just don't need it enough. Plus I barely ever play xbox or wii so it seems kind of dumb to pick up a PS3.

Yeah, I'd probably prioritize an HD television over a next-gen console, at this point, because you're definitely going to be paying for the resolution anyway. No reason to not get your money's worth.

Worth noting, if you have cash to spare, that Target is running a Black Friday deal for a 50 inch HDTV for under $300. It's a doorbuster sale, though, so you'd probably need to grab it when they open Thanksgiving night (at like 6 pm or whatever).

[EDIT]

And I'm just assuming that sale would be about the same across NA regions. I suppose I have no good reason to do so, though.

we don't even have a target here. Thanks for the tip though. I have no where to put a big TV, however. I mean, I guess I could mount it on the wall of my art room but it would be ugly and distracting.

I am considering mounting the smaller one. I might actually play my consoles if I didn't keep them and the TV in the closet and need to haul them out to actually play them.

I can play Lemmings on my Win 98 desktop, phone, PSP, PS3 and Vita, what would I want a PS4 for? If they release a PS4 exclusive Lemmings title, I'll buy it.

I was at a Gamestop today to pick up a copy of Uncharted for my shiny new Vita and played around with the PS4 they had set up for a bit. First, I love the new controller. The shoulder buttons and triggers are much better than the PS3 controller, and the new design of the analog sticks is great. My hands have really dried out in this colder weather and I had some lotion on them, my thumbs never slipped off of the new sticks. The face buttons are smaller and a bit closer together, but it was an easy adjustment. The game I played didn't use the touch pad, so I can't say how well it works.

I played the demo for Knack, which didn't blow my mind. The graphics were sharp and colorful, but nothing amazing. The game was not pushing the PS4s capabilities much as far as I could see. The game play was meh. It's basically an action game without limited abilities. You jump, dodge and punch, and not much else. If there's a story, I didn't any of from the demo. I probably wouldn't buy the game, but I'd download it if it were free with PS+ at some point.

Looks like I got my wish. Only available in the UK so far but I would imagine they'd bring it to this side of the pond.
